What comes into your mind when someone says environmental protection? Maybe it is avoiding buying plastic? Or buying organic food? Recycling? Environmental activism? But what if I told you that even your day-to-day actions can help the environment? And I am not talking about consumer choices at the moment, though these, of course, are also important. I am talking about how we treat ourselves and people/animals/nature around us. How do you speak to your child? Do you talk to people in your neighborhood? Would you help a stranger in need? But how does the fact whether I know my neighbours influence the environment? Environmental issue, while an issue on its own, can also be seen as a consequence of deeper problems running in our society-economical, political, but even more importantly, health and wellbeing, cultural, and social problems. If we only look at environmental issues separating them from other current problems, we are unlikely to reach a sustainable solution. So even if you do not add any new behavior to your day-to-day life, you can still make a difference, and a big one. The way you treat your kids and what values you share with them. The way you see your neighbours and whether you are willing to stretch a hand to those in need. These are very important actions that all of us can do, even if we do not know much about the environmental issues. Creating a sense of community and unity has much power. It pushes us to look at what unites, rather than divides, us. It cultivates a sense of compassion-for other humans, as well as other beings and the planet we live on. We start seeing ourselves as one and coming to the solutions together, for the greater good of all and while respecting others’ opinions and views. I am curious if you might already be doing any of the above? Do you feel it changes the way you treat the world around you? 🌎 #environmentalprotection #burstthegreenbubble

https://lnkd.in/e4YS_FSY Prioritizing economic outcomes over planetary health deepens racial, economic, and health inequities. The low cost of plastic products especially overlooks negative health and environmental impacts disproportionately impacting marginalized communities at every lifecycle phase. Yesterday was Earth's day, this reminded me that some time ago, I was volunteering with an organization that supported youth at risk. We went to this small town and we conducted activities and workshops for days, until one day we went on a recycling journey... To my awful surprise, the area we were going to clean had also a big pond in the middle, full of waste of all kinds. The smell was terrible, and the view sad. I took a look around and there were houses near this area, kids playing with trash.... I don't come here today to make you feel sad with this story. I just want to point out and remember you all that it is in our hands, every single day, and not just on earth's day to care. Care for your consumption and waste Care for the people and to reshape industries Care for creating or encourage solutions that are more sustainable Care for the animals, the oceans, the ecosystems Every year thrive to make your own personal set of choices that make this place better, not just for you. But for those that come after you. The effects of not acting on this are incredible (severe droughts, more intense hurricanes, cancer, scarcity of water, and more). The problem is so real that now we speak about environmental refugees. Take consistent actions towards transformative solutions for the world. #environmentalsustainability #sustainability #socialjustice #humanrights #DEI #sostenibilidadambiental #sostenibilidad #justiciasocial #derechoshumanos #equidaddegenero
