Friendship and allyship through BE4ALL! In a world filled with diversity and acceptance, me, a transgender woman, found friendship and allyship through the initiative called BE4ALL, which stands for Belonging and Excellence for All. This initiative was a collaboration between SMACNA , SMART Union, and International Training Institute (ITI) aimed at fostering inclusivity and challenging biases in the skilled trades. Through BE4ALL, I found a group of like-minded individuals from across North America who were committed to creating a more inclusive world. We come from different backgrounds, experiences, and identities, but we share a common goal - to challenge biases and foster belonging for all. Within this group, I am discovering true friendship and allyship. We support each other through our personal journeys, offering a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, a word of encouragement, a micro-affirmation. We celebrate each other's victories and stand together in the face of adversity. Together, we are engaging with those who are open to learning and growing. We share our stories, educating others about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We challenge biases and encourage others to examine their own preconceived notions. As a group, we organize Bias and Belonging training, Learning Journeys, a Calendar of Inclusivity Dates, a Rapid Response Kit, Period Kits and countless other initiatives that promote diversity and challenge biases in the Skilled Trades industry. We collaborate with union locals, training providers, contractors, and amazing skilled tradespeople, spreading the message of belonging and excellence for all. #BE4ALL #skilledtrades #sheetmetal #transgender 🏳️⚧️ #microaffirmation

Check out our latest blog post celebrating the conclusion of Pride Month! To close out the celebrations, our UltraProud Employee Resource Group (ERG) hosted a compelling panel discussion, "Allyship: Within Our Workplace and Beyond." Employees across the company engaged in a lively dialogue with thoughtful questions that sparked deep insights and invaluable learnings. Throughout the discussion, one resounding theme stood out: "Action" defines true allyship. We explored the nuances of allyship, acknowledging that it involves a continuous journey of learning, which includes making mistakes and learning from them. This journey is complex and demands safe spaces, ongoing dialogue, empathy, and self-awareness from allies and LGBTQIA+ individuals. At Ultragenyx, we reaffirm embracing diverse perspectives by amplifying the voices of our LGBTQIA+ colleagues. I'll always talk about the importance of community! why? because the number of people I've encountered who are at different stages in their career and haven't developed external communities outside of their day job is mind-boggling. we need to amplify the power of community, because they are there for you in the good times and bad. a few communities I'm a part of (and/or will be spending more time with this year) are: ↪ Safe Space- my good friend Hebba Youssef has created a long-overdue community for HR folks to meet other HR folks in a unfiltered, psychologically safe environment. HR folks are also employees- this forum reminds you of that fact and that you aren't alone ↪ Fractional People People - a community for Fractional People People to celebrate and support each other on their fractional/consulting HR journey! a journey I'm currently on, so excited to start diving in. ↪ Knoetic | CPOHQ- being a C-Suite leader is a lonely job. this forum is specifically for Chief People Officers, but I encourage anyone with "Chief" in their title to 'find your people'. ↪ Glynn 100- what's great about this community is the cross-functional representation across Marketing, Technology, Finance and People. as a People leader, I love spending time with other HR folks, but I don't want to operate in a silo and these are key partners/functions whatever company you work for. ↪ Fast Company Executive Board- I love the combination of networking with individuals across all industries and functions and the ability to write/be published in a publication I respect alongside other experts. ↪ In Person Events: in this era of professional loneliness, don't forget about in-person events as a way to develop community. I'm excited to head back to Transform for a third time in two weeks and an upcoming Out for Business LGBTQ Mixer in Los Angeles. Sharing is caring, so I hope this helps!
