70-80% of #AI projects in #IT organizations fail. But why? We conducted a study to understand how IT organizations perceive AI. One of the questions we asked IT professionals was about the barriers to AI adoption. We found these to be the most popular barriers: ❌ Customer data security ❌ Additional cost ❌ Inaccuracy or inconsistency ❌ Lack of expertise within the team ❌ Governance and compliance These are responsible for killing AI projects before they start or through a hundred paper cuts. According to McKinsey & Company the 3 main reasons why 70% of transformations (in general, not just AI) fail are: ❌ Inadequate leadership aspiration ❌ Skills and capability gaps ❌ Neglect of procedural elements How can you increase the odds of success? I've written about it in some depth. On a high level: 1. Pick a problem that’s a business priority 2. Understand that changing user behavior is hard 3. Start nurturing talent early on through hiring and training 4. Recognize that users are prioritizing their own goals 5. Educate users on the importance of governance and compliance 6. Change manage the program with the end user in mind 7. Track progress and continually improve If you take away one thing, let it be #1. Adopting AI for the sake of the technology is why most projects fail.
This is an interesting write up. Awesome job!
