Great reminder / PSA re: naloxone. A thought: although we are seeing some interesting - positive! - trend changes happening overall, morbidity/mortality from opioid OD remains an extremely important public health issue. Another important PH issue: sudden cardiac arrest / time to defibrillation / access to AEDs, which has been intensively studied in last 20y or so. Of particular interest (to me anyway) is the grassroots organizing at community level to raise $ / obtain, make available, raise awareness, training, etc. Although the pesky issue of stigma exists for the condition of opioid use / addiction when compared with SCA, the model itself (incl. burden of condition / prevalence, incidence rates of opioid use indicators, in addition to OD rates, by geographic area), insights & lessons learned from analyses & reporting / etc., could certainly inform development of programs related to the availability of naloxone in public spaces, should there be interest... I am aware that Narcan (naloxone) may be purchased OTC at Rx chains, for example, for $20 or so - however, I would consider this effort just one part of the whole, and I believe there's plenty of space for something similar to the AED model to occupy as part of said whole.

Naltrexone is the third FDA-approved medication used to treat opioid dependence. Unlike methadone and buprenorphine, naltrexone does not stop withdrawal symptoms but instead blocks the euphoric effects of opioids. This makes naltrexone a great option for someone who has already stopped opioid use and wants to avoid relapsing. Ready to explore your treatment options? Our team at BHG is here to guide you every step of the way. Learn more about how naltrexone can help in your recovery: https://hubs.li/Q02KJD9l0 #BHG #AddictionRecovery #MedicationAssistedTreatment

Today is National Opioid Awareness Day. It’s a crucial time to reflect on the impact of the opioid crisis and push for change. Here are some eye-opening statistics: Of the 109,000 overdoses in 2022, 81,000 Americans lost their lives to opioids, and 75% of opioid overdose deaths involve synthetic opioids like fentanyl. These numbers remind us of the urgent need for prevention, treatment, and support. Let's unite to spread awareness, promote safe medication practices, and support those affected by this crisis. #NationalOpioidAwarenessDay #EndTheCrisis #RecoveryMonth
