We took the last nine to eleven bags of clothes, shoes, & stuff animals to Wings of Hope this morning for donation… I spent about forty-five minutes today straightening up the catchall (aka Arick’s old bedroom) room this afternoon…there is another load of laundry ready to go (once the dishes are done), and I’ve started an other small bag for donations again… Hopefully tomorrow I can move the dorm refrigerator out of my room & into his room…plus a few other things…though, I need to figure out where to ‘store’ a couple of aquariums until we figure out where to take them…I know that we can probably take them to Habitat for Humanity for donations…but are there any other places to donate them—or perhaps someplace where we could sell them? Once the refrigerator & a few other things are out of my room…I’ll then deal with the ‘headache’ of trying to move my desk and one or two things to that wall…and see if I can have the desk fit under that window & next to the tv stand…I may not be able to ‘sit’ comfortably…but I rarely sit ‘normally’ at a desk anyway… Then hopefully over the next few weeks figure out how to get the rest of the furniture out of the storage unit & into the house…get the bookcase into my bedroom…get the books back onto said bookcase & then also organize the garage so we can get the bikes into the garage…while hopefully still being able to get to boxes I may need. But for now… I’m going to try to start planning out for December…since that is next week, before cooking dinner. #selfawareness #selfaccountability #decluttering #clothesdonations #stuffanimaldonations #organizing #cleaning #figuringoutmyvisionofminimalism

I grew up in rural Virginia with family that has been in farming and agriculture for generations. In 2020, I was starting to think about my retirement from the National Guard and doing research for an organization that supports veterans, farmers, and the local community. I wasn’t expecting much, but at the top of my google results was Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture (great job with your #SEO)! It’s not often that you find an organization that aligns to your personal experiences and values in a way that I’ve found with this amazing organization and Pamela Hess. Arcadia's mission is to cultivate vibrant local food systems that prioritize health, equity, and sustainability, from the farm forward. They are delivering on that mission and making an impact here in DC and beyond when their Veteran farmers go back to their local communities across the country. They working to reimagine our food systems so we can meet the needs of our under-resourced communities. This is important work that shapes our #future with #sustainable solutions. I’m sharing this broadly to help them generate the needed funds to support their mission. Every dollar we raise will go toward: 1. growing fresh healthy food for the community (1 million servings plus since 2016!) 2. training military veterans to be farmers (230 from 22 states so far!) helping build little appetites for fruits and veggies (13,500 children have been to Arcadia at farm camp and field trips since 2011!) 3. leapfrogging the barriers low-income families have to access nutritious foods ($2 million worth of food sold and distributed in under-resourced neighborhoods since 2012. Arcadia's Mobile Markets represent less than 1% of all farmers market sales in DC but complete 45% of all food stamp transactions at farmers markets.) Let me know if I can connect you more closely to Arcadia. And please ask me about the amazing annual farm dinner!
On Wednesday, April 24, we are all taking to our computers for an annual online day of giving called Spring2Action (via ACT for Alexandria). Donate here: https://lnkd.in/eEkWbSt We are raising $30,000 to support Arcadia Farm (new fences to keep critters at bay), our new Community Farm opening next month (food sovereignty! entrepreneurship! dinner tables laden with veggies!), Arcadia Farm Camp scholarships, our school & community gardens, our Veteran Farmer Program, and our Mobile Markets. You'll hear more about each of these over the coming days -- but TL;DR? $10 is great (if everyone who gets this gave us $10, we'd blow the lid off!) $1,000 gets you two free seats at our fabulous Fall Harvest Farm Dinner. Any amount in between or above makes it possible for Arcadia to do its important, impactful work: - We grow the supply of fresh healthy food - We train new farmers to produce it - We stoke the appetites of children and families for that fresh, nutritious food - We leapfrog the barriers that people without much money or easy access face to get their hands on it. Arcadia only works because of you: your volunteer labor, your ideas, your cheerleading, and yes ... your donations. Thank you for bringing all of this work to life. Your friends at Arcadia https://lnkd.in/eEkWbSt

Graphic design is my passion.
Saving pigs is our passion. We forgot to save money for a #GivingTuesday graphic designer because we spent all our funds on vet bills, feed, warm bedding, and heat lamps. Consider donating to The Mini Mountain Farm Sanctuary today and help us reach out ambitious, but necessary goals: https://lnkd.in/eWcbkgGn We rely on contributions from folks like you to operate. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 99-1603587), donations to The Mini Mountain Farm Sanctuary Inc. are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. We also invite you to become a monthly donor, providing ongoing support that enables us to continue our mission of compassionate care and sustainable agriculture advocacy. #GivingSeason #CorporateDonors #SocialImpact #SocialGood #AnimalWelfare #VeganProfessionals

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the wildfires sweeping through Southern California. The impact on families, communities, and local businesses has been unimaginable, and we stand in solidarity with everyone experiencing these hardships. Among the many affected are local pizzerias, cherished community hubs that have long brought people together over a shared love of pizza. Now, many of these establishments are grappling with the challenges of operating amidst the crisis or have had to close their doors entirely. Slice Out Hunger has launched a campaign to raise funds to help those impacted by the wildfires. Donations will go toward relief efforts, providing food and resources to those in need, and helping local pizzerias rebuild and recover. This is a crucial moment to show our support for these small businesses and the communities they serve. If you’re looking for a way to help, we encourage you to consider donating to Slice Out Hunger. Every contribution makes a difference and brings hope to those who need it most. Go to sliceouthunger.org or click below. https://lnkd.in/gCUM8MH5 Let’s stand together to help those in need. ❤️ This is an emotional one but hear me out… Declutter + Donate. That’s our motto. It isn’t a cute saying to slap on things. We donate with cause. Every. Single. Time. There is so much need in our world, in our local community, in our schools and in our neighborhoods. Trashing things is so much easier. I get that. You can instantly make it go away. There are now so many organizations that will COME TO YOU if getting to the donation spot isn’t in the cards. But PLEASE, donate with purpose. Give something you would want to receive. In our case, we have found resources for items that may not be suitable for curbside donation pickup for a local secondhand resale shop that supports their cause. If you are committed to the taking the extra step to find those additional resources, ask us and we will do our best to give you recommendations. And what do I mean by that? For example, we sort all the clothes taken from a client. The quality is a tiered system. That charity 5k you ran, where registration included a t-shirt but not in your size, we want that. It’s not sellable at a resale shop but our partner that serves the homeless would love it. 😉 You are simply marvelous! #simplymarvelousspaces #organizewithtiffany #declutteranddonate #donatelocal #title1schools #title1teacher #humantraffickingawareness #animalrescues #supportyourcommunity #fostercareawareness #homelessnessawareness #siennatx #missouricitytx

A litter charity is creating a national litter database to find out why some areas are worse than others. RECOUP, based in Peterborough, also hopes the database will help advise packaging companies on how to cut down waste. As manufacturers of a large range of outdoor bins, we the team at Amberol will be watching this initiative closely. The initiative is part of the charity's Litter Composition and Pathways Project. It hopes it can be spread nationwide to allow litter picking groups to input data from a variety of locations to make the database as comprehensive and inclusive as possible. #Litter #LitterPicking #Packaging https://lnkd.in/eDguTynh

Over the past two weeks, Asheville has been flooded with love. From local, state, and federal agencies (yes, they are ALL here, but that’s a different post). Joe, Hank, Alice and I have been doing shifts at a grassroots collection and distribution site. The generosity is staggering. Thank you, thank you, thank you! But the needs are now evolving. Our site alone could no longer accept water, clothing, OTC meds, and much more. They have SO much. And that’s only one site. Other mountain areas (Boone, Marshall, Spruce Pine, and countless others) may need supplies, but Asheville now has what it needs to meet folks basic needs. However, restaurants can’t open bc there’s no water, and many want to pay their staff regardless. Farmers can’t sell to restaurants, so they’re donating their produce for distribution by food banks. And artists lost much — if not all — of their inventory in the flooding. - Consider donating to artists using the image below. - Support farmers here: https://lnkd.in/ewSNg39R - And if you have a truck of supplies, please direct it to a smaller town that doesn’t have as many resources as Asheville.
Local, independent businesses are the heart of the Asheville area—home to growers who are artists and artists whose work grows. Thought leaders and thought provokers, musicians and storytellers, entrepreneurs and educators, foodies and beer lovers, hippies, healers, adventurers, creators and innovators. We craft and brew and paint and carve, handcrafted by real hands. Now, those hands need a helping hand. And a hug. This weekend, Explore Asheville, in partnership with Asheville Downtown Association, Go Local Asheville, ArtsAVL, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, ASHEVILLE INDEPENDENT RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION INC, WNC: MADE X MTNS, Mountain BizWorks, and JD Ellison and Company, launched the Love Asheville From Afar page. This page gathers shop links and direct donation platforms for Buncombe County businesses impacted by Hurricane Helene. Businesses located in or selling from Buncombe County can participate by completing this submission form: https://lnkd.in/gFFiH_V2 Your support can make a real difference—shop local or donate to help rebuild: https://lnkd.in/gA9Mmq39

It was eight or nine bags of clothes, shoes, & stuff animals taken to the women’s shelter for donation this morning. We have another nine bags of clothes, shoes, & stuff animals to take tomorrow for donation. I have boxes then to move into the garage (or possibly to go through again to decide what to keep & what to donate), then try to rearrange Arick’s room a little more so that I can move a few things out of my room & into his room…so I can rearrange things a little more in order to try to fit more of my furniture from the storage unit into my bedroom. Will I have my storage unit cleared out by next Saturday? Not sure…it depends on what I manage to get done over the next few days & what the plans are for next week (because the last few things do require more than just two people to try & move). But it will be cleared out by the end of the year. Truthfully…this is something I should have been doing years ago…but I guess better late than continuing to pay an outrageous storage fee… Then it will be tackling getting rid of DVDs (figuring out best sites to sell on and/or possibly donating)…possibly some CDs (maybe…possibly…will have to really think about this one)…and just decluttering the house in general…working from the bedrooms out to the main ‘rooms’…then the garage & then finally the abyss of it all—the attic. But while I wait for the small load of dishes to finish running (so I can then start the small load of laundry)…it’s time to work on some personal/professional development projects: redrawing my comfort/bounce/stretch/risk/die diagram & possibly redraw/contemplate what I feel my latest level 10 life looks like. #selfawareness #selfaccountability #decluttering #dontations #clearingoutthestorageunit #workingtowardsmyversionofminimalism #wehavewaytoomuchstuff
