The Interlace - A Vertical Village of Living and Social Spaces, Integrated with the Natural Environment The Interlace represents a radical reinterpretation of contemporary urban living through its innovative design by Ole Scheeren. Departing from traditional isolated tower clusters, this vertical village stacks 31 six-story apartment blocks in a hexagonal arrangement around eight generous courtyards. The design emphasizes horizontal connectivity and community, creating a dramatic topography of terraced gardens and interconnected spaces that foster a strong sense of togetherness while integrating individual privacy. Completed in late 2013, The Interlace spans 170,000m² and offers 1,040 residential units of varying sizes. The hexagonal arrangement of blocks forms a stepped geometry with multi-story openings that allow natural light and air to permeate the courtyards. Each of the eight courtyards has its own distinct character and serves as a central point of orientation, with a primary pedestrian route connecting residents to these communal spaces. $85 Million Fitzroy Project: Blending Heritage and Modernity..... Beulah planning to deliver more sustainable design outcomes with its latest proposal in Fitzroy, an $85M development planned for 430-434 George Street. Designed by Breathe Architecture, this eight-storey mixed-use project will feature 44 apartments and two retail spaces, with sustainability at its core. The fossil-fuel-free design includes rooftop solar, rainwater harvesting, a dedicated bicycle hub, EV charging stations, and a lush fern garden. A three-storey brick podium reflects Fitzroy’s heritage, blending seamlessly with the area’s Victorian and Edwardian streetscapes. A retained bluestone wall and laneway on Rose Street will create unique entry points for vehicles and cyclists. BEULAH’s vision for Fitzroy draws on its vibrant history and eclectic culture.
