A new international airport will soon open in Greenland’s capital Nuuk, allowing larger aircraft to land for the first time - paving the way for direct flights from the US and Europe. It’s the first of three airport projects that officials hope will boost the local economy, by making the Arctic territory more accessible than ever before. Covered by an ice cap and sparsely populated, Greenland is a vast autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

It’s great to see the cruise industry making big moves toward #sustainability! 🌍 The work that AIDA Cruises is doing with ships like AIDAnova, powered by @LNG, is really impressive. And increasing shore power connections from 65 in 2023 to 600 by 2025 is such a positive step for reducing emissions. The fact that they also focus on waste management, sorting into 22 different categories, shows a real commitment to protecting the environment. It’s good to know that companies like Cruise Baltic and AIDA Cruises are leading these efforts for greener cruising. More than half of the country's population say that they would travel more often by train after the construction of the new European railway #RailBaltica. Experts say that the project should help Lithuania get closer to the climate policy goals of the European Union. 🇪🇺 🌱 ✅ Silvestras Dikčius, the ambassador of the European Climate Pact and an enthusiast of sustainable travel, believes that Rail Baltica can also have a "soft power" effect, changing our habits, where and how we travel. 🚶♀️ 🚉 🚲 💬 "A new and, most importantly, environmentally friendly option is emerging. In my opinion, this is exactly how we should move in the direction of the Green Deal. Not by creating restrictions, but by presenting new, modern alternatives", says S. With many either already there or currently en route to Brussels for #ConnectingEurope, we would like to share one last highlight as part of the North Sea Commission countdown to the event. Today's highlight comes to us from Örebro kommun 🇸🇪 Many regions, as well as the national Swedish and Norwegian government, worked incredibly hard to include the Oslo-Stockholm connection in the ScanMed corridor during the TEN-T revisions. This connection bridges two capitals and has the potential to significantly decrease travel time, which would incentivise rail travel and offer a strong alternative to flying. While a preliminary agreement was reached on the inclusion of this connection, there are still gaps regarding urban nodes, terminals and ports.
