🚨 Important Update for Optimum Customers Optimum has recently updated their cable boxes, replacing the older Scientific Atlanta models with new Samsung Electronics streaming boxes as part of their fiber upgrades. While these new boxes offer enhanced features and performance, they are not compatible with control systems like Savant Systems or Control4 This means that if you use these systems, you will lose the ability to control your Optimum cable box. Here are some alternative solutions: 1. Optimum App on Apple TV: You can use the Optimum app on Apple TV to stream content directly, bypassing the need for the new cable box. 2. Other Streaming Providers on AppleTV or other Streaming Device: We highly recommend switching to another streaming service. Our personal favorite is YouTube TV, but other excellent options include Hulu, FuboTV, and more. These services integrate well with control systems like Savant and Control4, ensuring you maintain a seamless viewing experience. All of this was predictable at the dawn of the OTT era. And was predicted, by myself and others. The vision of “all the content you want, only the content you want, when you want it, on the devices you want, ad-free and for less than the cable bundle” was clearly never going to last.

Maria Rua Aguete : #SmartTV makers zone in on #advertising opportunity #CTVWS Smart TV manufacturers are likely to continue to focus on building an advertising business given the superior margins available from this business compared with selling hardware, according to data released by Maria Rua Aguete, senior research director, #Omdia, at the Connected TV World Summit in London today. However, the smart TV ecosystem remains highly fragmented, with multiple suppliers and different OS platforms and big regional variations in which supplier and OS dominates around the world. According to Omdia, profit margins from CTV advertising in 2022 were in the order of over 50%, while globally, margins from the sale of TV hardware were less than 1%. STREAMING VIDEO: Despite being a market where broadcasters are making great strides in moving to a streaming model, and with TV manufacturers such as SAMSUNG reporting that a high percentage of TVs sold in Australia are never connected to an antenna, Australian consumers wanting to migrate fully to IP still face some restrictions. Even whilst Hubbl's current marketing is promoting TV without cumbersome coax cables, those attempting to watch free TV in Australia without a digtal terrestrial antenna or satellite TV service may find their sports viewing options are somewhat limited. Anyone trying to watch AFL games on Channel 7 via IP, be that via a PC browser, via the 7Plus app on smart TVs, streaming devices or a Hubbl that's not connected to DTT are greeted instead with repeats of Border Patrol with this scrolling message: 'Sorry! We don't currently have the rights to stream the AFL on 7plus. To watch the game, tune in on broadcast via your aerial, or find more of your favourite shows on 7plus. Stay tuned - the AFL rights are coming, live and free, from season 2025'.
