📣 The release of a landmark report on rewilding and carbon: The Knepp Wildland Carbon Project. This report evaluates the role rewilding can play in healing degraded land and enhancing carbon sequestration in the UK. This work is critical for landowners, investors, government agencies, carbon standards, and corporations seeking to integrate natural solutions into their climate strategies. Key Findings: 🌱 The project sets a benchmark in nature restoration data, demonstrating the carbon sequestration and storage potential of UK rewilding. 🌱 Findings indicate that the rewilding of scrub and grassland sequesters and stores large volumes of atmospheric CO2 over at least the first 20 years. 🌱 The report addresses critical data gaps and demonstrates that rewilding is an alternative investable climate solution, with estimated carbon sequestration rates comparable to those estimated for a newly planted native woodland. Agricarbon's Chief Scientist, Dr Helaina Black, comments: "It has been a pleasure to be involved in this great teamwork at Knepp. This has been a vital, but all too rare, opportunity to make an inclusive assessment of decadal carbon capture from ecosystem restoration by linking above with below-ground measurements using innovative approaches and technologies". Agricarbon conducted the below-ground data analysis in collaboration with Knepp Estate, Nattergal Ltd, Arup, Treeconomy, and Queen Mary University of London. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs supported the project alongside the Environment Agency's Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund. This place has seen better days. And the cooperation we need to restore nature. Area of #tropicaldryforests converted into pastureland and degraded over unsustainable practices. We are coming and showing landowners new and sustainable options to #restore nature - and live off it. We come show these options with the local credit provider, with local universities, reforestation partners and cooperatives of #nontimberforestproducts, creating a business case that extends beyond carbon credit contracts. #tropicaldryforests #reforestation #carboncredits

📣 One day on from World Rewilding Day, we’re delighted to announce the release of a landmark report on rewilding and carbon: The Knepp Wildland Carbon Project. 📣 👉 The project sets a benchmark in nature restoration data, demonstrating the carbon sequestration and storage potential of UK rewilding. 👉Findings indicate that the rewilding of scrub and grassland, sequester and store large volumes of atmospheric CO2 over at least their first 20 years. 👉 The report addresses critical data gaps and demonstrates that rewilding is an alternative investable climate solution, with estimated of carbon sequestration rates comparable to those estimated for a newly planted native woodland. Treeconomy provided carbon baselining and measurement across woodland, scrub, and hedgerow vegetation at the famous Knepp Estate rewilding project. We’re proud to have worked with an expert group of project partners, comprising: Knepp Estate Nattergal Ltd Arup Agricarbon Queen Mary University of London The project was generously supported by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Environment Agency Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund. Well said Antonis Antoniou Latouros! 👏👏👏The #NatureRestorationLaw is indeed an opportunity and not an obstruction…and this can be the same for many other industries. As part of the European Aggregate Industry, Heidelberg Materials sees restoration as a significant part of its commitment to contributing to #NaturePositive…all businesses need to have nature embedded in their strategy! Forest protection projects, known as REDD+, came under fire last year after The Guardian published a report claiming that most carbon credits generated from this project type are "worthless". Yet they also accounted for the second largest volume of credit retirements. This webinar will provide an overview of REDD+, addressing the concerns and unpicking the debates surrounding it. A spotlight will be given to new solutions that the market is coming up with, including jurisdictional approaches and our own integrity assessments, and how they can ensure the effectiveness of these projects so that they can serve the purpose of unlocking capital to protect the world's forests.
