Confronting shrinking enrollment and a projected $25 million budget shortfall, the Judson Independent School District is considering a plan that could result in Bexar County’s 26th school closure since 2023. Trustees are slated to vote next month on a series of proposals that include closing Coronado Village Elementary School and redrawing attendance lines to increase the efficiency of district facilities. It’s a familiar discussion for local school officials and families. Four other San Antonio school districts have consolidated campuses in the last two years to cope with fewer students and reduced funding. Unlike those school systems, however, Judson is discussing shuttering a school while construction crews work to erect two new campuses. https://bit.ly/4fXDNgr

In this video, we explore a growing trend among American school districts: transforming unused district land into affordable housing for teachers. Starting with Hendry School District in Florida, we delve into the reasons behind this movement, including the rising cost of living, teacher shortages, and the complexities of education funding. We'll discuss the pros and cons of these housing initiatives, from the financial logistics and the impact on teacher retention to the potential challenges of living near coworkers and students. We'll also examine how public education is funded in America, the role of school bonds, and why districts might prefer building housing over increasing salaries. Join us as we unpack this innovative yet controversial solution to the teacher housing crisis and explore whether it’s a viable long-term strategy.

https://lnkd.in/gx4_Uxzm A weekly task I truly enjoy is connecting with residential agents to gain insights into their side of the market. They often share how school systems play a crucial role where families choose to plant roots and build their lives. Take Monroe High School, for instance. With over 2,900 students, it’s currently operating at 124% capacity. Earlier this month, voters approved plans for a new facility adjacent to the high school—a $62.10 million project aimed at addressing the area’s rapid growth. This investment isn’t just about meeting current demands; it’s a commitment to long-term growth and sustainability, ensuring the next generation is set up for success. With Butler and Warren Counties doubling their populations and exciting developments like Summerlyn Farms, Stonybrook, Otterbein, and the $450 million Parkside project, Monroe is quickly becoming a prime location for families and businesses alike. If you’re looking for C-1 land in Monroe near the freeway, let’s connect—I’d love to help you find the perfect spot! #cincinnati #realestate

**A Win for New Bedford: Roof Projects Approved Under MSBA's Revived ARP Program** One year ago, New Bedford Public Schools voiced strong concerns about the suspension of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) Accelerated Repair Program (ARP), a critical initiative supporting urban districts with aging school buildings. The ARP, focused on replacing roofs, windows/doors, and boilers in otherwise sound facilities, has been instrumental in addressing urgent infrastructure needs, particularly in cities like New Bedford with some of the state's oldest school stocks. At the time, we emphasized how this suspension disproportionately impacted districts like ours, where roofs on many buildings are over 30, 50, or even 70 years old. We called for action, and through advocacy and collaboration, we joined others to push for the program’s revival. This month, we’re proud to announce that our determination has paid off. Eight roof projects submitted by New Bedford Public Schools have been approved under the revived ARP program. This is a significant milestone, not just for our district, but for all communities advocating for equitable school facilities. Investing in school buildings is essential for the future of education in New England, where harsh weather conditions and long-neglected infrastructure create daily challenges for our students and educators. These new roofs will not only extend the lifespan of our buildings but also ensure safer, more conducive learning environments for our students—an investment every child in Massachusetts deserves. The fight for equitable support for school facilities continues, but this victory demonstrates what can be achieved through persistent advocacy. The ARP program has proven its worth, having supported over 300 smaller projects across the state, and it remains a vital tool for bridging the "great divide" in school facility quality. As we move forward, we remain committed to ensuring that New Bedford’s students learn in facilities that reflect their worth and potential. Thank you to the MSBA and to everyone who worked tirelessly to make this possible. #SchoolFacilities #EquityInEducation #MSBA #SchoolConstruction #BuildingForTheFuture

This is amazing, and definitely something that should and could be replicated. Helping public schools reach impact, and engagement goals in different regions, would be big. If there's no money behind it, then things like this become well discussed ideas, not realities. #Publiceducation #infrastructure #workforcehousing #affordablehousing #investment #publicschools #education #innovation #technology #communitydevelopment

Parents in Cheyenne are suing the Wyoming School Facilities Commission over its recent approval of a major overhaul for Laramie County School District No. 1. The planned overhaul would close eight elementaries and build, replace or alter 12 other schools. It aims to address declining enrollment and to move students out of aging facilities. The state's School Facilities Commission approved the overhaul last month, paving the way to start construction on two new schools. https://ow.ly/hJPk50Uur0K
