Many often wonder, “what is the church doing about crime and violence?” Here’s an example! The church has done and is doing a lot of work in the trenches to reduce violence in Jamaica! If you want to get some insight into what we’re doing, listen to this episode! Remember to like, share and comment!
When life presents us with a tangle of struggles, it's the stories of profound change that often guide us toward hope. Apostle Franz Fletcher joins us as we unearth the transformative power of restorative justice within inner-city communities, revealing how faith and dedicated service can turn lives around. Once an electrical engineer, Apostle Franz's journey led him to become a minister, shaping a life deeply entrenched in healing the brokenhearted and reducing the roots of crime and violence through his work with the Jamaica Constabulary Force and child diversion programs. Venturing into the heart of Western Kingston with Church on the Rock, our discussion highlights the church's innovative efforts to foster peace and provide skills training without waiting for government aid. The community's resolve shines through in stories of conflict resolution and empowerment, where local mothers find new opportunities and troubled individuals receive a chance for redemption. These narratives aren't just about individual change—they underscore the collective commitment to nurturing safer and more supportive environments. Our exploration culminates with personal testimonies and the powerful roles played by mentorship, monitoring, and ministering—the "three Ms" that drive the church's outreach beyond its walls. We reflect on the ripple effects of personal transformation as we connect individuals to essential services and advocate for societal change. And through it all, Apostle Franz's voice serves as a beacon, illuminating the path from personal hardship to a life of purpose and service. Join us to witness the remarkable journeys that reaffirm the potential within each of us to contribute positively to our communities. Link to episode: https://lnkd.in/exwg4b96

Hi, I am starting a new social media page, movement and group dedicated to improving social issues in America. It is called "The New American Dream". A little about me and the page: "Hello, my name is Anna. I go by Anna Awe. I am an activist and artist. I've written six movies, over 200 songs, and countless poems and works of fiction. I started this page because I feel that there are certain major issues affecting America that are not being addressed enough by mass media or current leadership. These include economics/social mobility, community/isolation, mental health, job opportunities, and a lack of social cohesion. Many of us live in isolation with broken dreams simply trying to make ends meet. Having a family and a safe home has gotten too expensive for many. It doesn't have to be this way. Public awareness, open conversation, action steps and policy changes could make it so that we live in a more connected and loving society, where everyone can make their dreams come true. This is the start of the conversation. Where it leads I do not know, but someone has to get the ball rolling." Join here or through my link in bio: https://lnkd.in/gpxpFmCq

As a person who would be negatively impacted, both personally and professionally, by Project 2025 and a second term of (he who shall not be named), I cannot stay quiet. There are no perfect candidates just as there are no perfect people. If you know: a woman; a person marginalized in our society; a person relying on Medicare and Medicaid; a person desperately seeking to be comfortable and safe in their own skin without someone deciding how that should be; a person who values the discourse and varied perspectives offered by “banned” books; a person who wants the earth to be a livable planet for future generations; a person in a same-sex relationship; a person who practices a faith other than Christianity; a person who fought their way to this country in search of a better life like many of the ancestors of the people currently inhabiting a land stolen from the people who already lived here…then vote. Engage. Vote to protect the people you care about because at the end of the day it all comes down to love. *these are my personal views and do not reflect the opinions of my employer.

Check out this article by my friend and colleague, Grace Gámez, PhD. Grace always inspires me to dream bigger. "...yet directly impacted communities continue to organize, disrupt, and redirect the death-dealing violences of the settler colonial carceral state. What might a public safety strategy look like outside of common-sense ideas that posit police, incarceration, exclusion as essential to community safety? What is possible when we imagine beyond the borders that have been preconfigured for us?"
I am really excited to share this article my friend and comrade, Meg McDowell, and I published! Though we began writing it during the lockdown days of COVID, it represents 19 years of friendship rooted in learning, organizing, and freedom dreaming together. Mil gracias to Flowers & Bullets, and to all the organizers, light workers, and healers represented in this article. Thank you for all care-filled work you do to usher in new realities where every being has the opportunity to thrive. ♥️✊🏼🌱 From the abstract: In this article we examine counter hegemonic, and place-based, conceptualizations of safety, asking: What do non-carceral forms of safety look like in Southern Arizona, in one ward, in one city? To answer this question, we examine the results of the Barrio Centro Community Safety Project (BCCSP) and the emergent practices of one neighborhood collective in Tucson, AZ- Flowers & Bullets. We employ the term ‘abolitionist commoning’ to describe the centrality of land and place-making to recovering and building relations free from domination. In doing so, we join a flock of scholars, organizers, and cultural workers for abolitionist models of safety that are place- based and emphasize experimentation, healing, self-determination, and (re)new(ed) modes of sociality.

Always learn. Stay curious. "The first Christopher Street Liberation Day was a resounding success, the thousands of attendees surpassing organizers expectations. New York, Los Angeles and Chicago quickly began planning for 1971, and soon other cities, states, and countries would begin to establish their own annual Pride traditions."
