We're taking this week to unwind and get ready for the new fiscal year ahead! ✨ It is important to take time to recharge as it is critical to sustaining all the great work we do for SDF and the San Diego community. Providing this opportunity for our team aligns closely with our Strategic Plan and our commitment to improving mental and behavioral health to create resilient communities. Our office will be open for normal business hours on July 15, 2024. We wish you and our team a healthy and joyful summer. See you next week! #MentalHealth #ResilientCommunities #SanDiego

If we've been connected for a while, you know I'm an advocate for non-traditional forms of therapy for adolescents such as art, dance, horticulture and animal-assisted therapy - even if its a simple-minded fish. As Cheese's caretaker, I get the pleasure of trying to keep this little guy alive, while having to explain to the teens nine times a day that they cannot give him endless amounts of food. But I say that to highlight a very unique aspect of our program: intensive mental health treatment is taxing and its even harder on a brain which is not fully developed. Its important for them to take breaks and have something joyous to do in that break, rather just sitting and thinking about all the "normal" teen experiences they're missing. Additionally, these attractive outlets, although they may seem silly, encourage teens to identify their own limitations and improve their self-care. And if that's too many buzz words for you, I'll let the teens' words speak for themselves: "ya know...my brain hurts. Can I go feed cheese?"
🌞🐠 Say hello to Cheese, the newest member of Bright Path Behavioral Health's family! Our teens have chosen the perfect name for our new goldfish, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him to our program. 🧀🐟 As we dive into summer, we still have openings in our preteen and teen summer social-emotional program (https://lnkd.in/g8w8uEEU). But hurry - spots are filling up fast! Whether it's through bonding over our new finned friend or engaging in therapeutic activities, we're here to help your teen navigate the waves of adolescence with confidence and resilience. Join us at Bright Path Behavioral Health, where growth and healing flow naturally! 🌊 #BrightPathBehavioralHealth #SummerProgram #SocialEmotionalLearning #TeenSupport #ClassPet #GoldfishNamedCheese #MentalHealthMatters #JoinUs

THE REAL: Building out the Global Mental Health Ecosystem | Founder @ THE REAL Mental Health Foundation | THE REAL Summits | Mental Health Advocate | Impact Investing Pioneer
This is Bob 🚶♂️ Bob is part of THE REAL walk. We’ve been walking together every week for about nine months now at THE REAL walks. Bob’s a great guy, but here’s the thing: me and Bob couldn’t disagree more on every single topic that you can bring up. I don’t think we’ve ever agreed on anything. 🇺🇸 Here’s the thing—the country, the U.S., is divided: Republicans, Democrats, Independents—who really cares? But I really enjoy walking with Bob, and Bob enjoys walking with me. Just because we have different ideas doesn’t mean we can’t be buddies. It’s about respect, tolerance, finding common ground, and having fun during our good walks and talks. That’s what THE REAL is about—bringing people together. Everyone’s human, and you don’t have to agree with everything someone says or thinks. People can do what they want. What’s the difference? You can enjoy each other’s company and conversation. 💬 This is the power of community and conversations, bringing people together. This is part of the mental health foundation, and it’s the medicine we all need. THE REAL Mental Health Foundation Bob Schwartz Cary Cloud Giuseppe Brizi Heather Kelly Justine Mana (N.) The interrelationships woven between children, parents, family and community are central to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children's development and sense of identity. However, colonisation has interrupted important connections and relationships between family, community, culture and Land. Connections are central to any engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. Our Woven Ways introduces practice strategies to support practitioners in building the genuine, trust-based relationships required to have culturally safe, connecting conversations with parents about their worries, strengths and hopes for their children. Created in partnership with the Menzies School of Health Research and the Aboriginal and Islander Mental Health Initiative (AIMhi), Our Woven Ways encourages non-Indigenous practitioners to challenge the deficit discourse surrounding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parenting and use a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach that focuses on the resources, capacities and resilience of families and communities. Chief Empowerment Officer @ Naqsmist Storytellers Inc.’s mission is to accelerate the human collective’s understanding that we can do and think different by remembering who we are.
I became an alcoholic by the age of 12 and lived in poverty because I chose drinking over buying food and paying bills and was in debt with zero credit. I dropped out of school in grade 9 and had my first son at 18. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia when I was 22. I have struggled with depression and anxiety and mental health issues. I have always fallen back to my teachings of ceremony and coming of age. Cultivating Safe Spaces is not just a simple framework that breaks down seemingly complicated issues around decolonizing and reconciliation, exhaustion and burnout. It is a framework that supports healing, regulation and coming of age. Everything I have ever learned, has been included in this framework. Cultivating Safe Spaces has helped me maintain my sobriety, build a business rooted in trust and faith, decolonize my parenting and most importantly, continues to teach me how to trust myself and have confidence in the things I know and to stop worrying about the things I do not know. I plan on pulling back on my public offerings to focus on the scaling of @naqsmist_storytellers_ and @cultivatingsafespaces and to write my next two books. I have one 5hr virtual offering left this year and one public in person offering through our Cultivating Safe Spaces Conference in June. Click on the link in my bio or visit https://lnkd.in/gxzCsYtF

#ProjectSoulStride week 1 launch. Vital insights study on Suicidality and Mental Health within London Black Communitiies. Project commenced mid August 23’ so I’m calling for collaborators from the network. So far I have identified 34 individuals from a cross section of lived experience, academia, research, NHS, UK Government, Media, Mental Health and Sports. I am reaching out to you with a deep sense of purpose, as I embark on a an investigative project that addresses a critical issue affecting our community: suicidality and mental health within the Black community. This is an area that has been seriously overlooked and underserved, and I believe it is time to shine a spotlight on this population health issue. My plan encompasses a thorough outline, including: 🎯1. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: A comprehensive overview of the issue, highlighting the unique challenges faced by the African Caribbean Heritage (ACH) community concerning mental health and the resulting crisis. 🎯2. 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀: Gathering qualititve data through desk based research and interviews with experts to provide a holistic view of the problem. 🎯3. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Presenting the findings and insights garnered from the study, offering an informed narrative using my own lived experiences of the issue. 🎯4. 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠: Engaging in thought-provoking diiscussions that interprets the results, explores potential strategies for intervention, and advocates for change. However, I recognize that this is a monumental task that requires a collaborative effort. I invite you to be a part of this groundbreaking endeavour. Your unique perspectives, experiences, and insights will be invaluable in shaping the narrative and driving the impact of this project. Whether you can contribute through personal experiences, expert knowledge, or even by connecting me with individuals who might have a stake in this matter, your involvement can make a significant difference. Please reply to this post or email me (𝗰𝗻_𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸@𝘆𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗼.𝗰𝗼𝗺) or reach out to me directly. Your support is immensely appreciated, and I am excited to embark on this journey of advocacy together. Thank you for your consideration and commitment to our community's well-being. #Blackmentalhealth #suicideprevention #healthinequalities #populationhealth #citizenscience
