He leaves us with a lasting reminder: to work hard and find joy in this great game, and this extraordinary life. Say Hey, Willie Mays. The best there ever was.

He was my idol growing up in San Francisco. I got to meet him as a very young boy and played catch with him at Crocker Amazon Park. I told my son and daughter about Willie and they became fans long after his playing days. Knowing how much Willie meant to me they wore number 24 on their baseball and softball teams growing up. I think that he had a bit of an influence on them both as they now play baseball and softball in college. They both were impacted by his passing and shared that with me tonight. Willie was one of a kind. Thanks Willie!

Fortunate to have grown up watching the greatest player of all time. He is now safe at Home!

One of the nicest guys of all time! Rode my bike by his house as a kid, he always had a Giants cap on, always said hello. Forever Giant!

When PAC Bell Park changed its name to AT&T Park, I attended an event that brought together Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey and then manager Felipe Alou. Willie Mays was gracious and spent some time to chat with me. To this day it is one of my most precious memories. Thanks for all you did to make the national past time exciting for all the kids who grew up watching you play the game.

When I heard the news, I felt sad. I loved watching Willie Mays in my youth, and going to the Stick to watch him play. Would have loved to see him play in his prime, but that predates me. At the crossroads of what LinkedIn Reaction I would select became clear as I was reflecting as far back as my memory serves me. “Celebrate” The amazing life of Willie “Say Hey Kid” Mays! RIP Willie! 🧡🖤 #RESPECT

Hey Tod: Long time-no-see. I lived in Belmont with my family during my middle-school days, often attending games at Candlestick Park, watching both Willie's (Mays and McCovey) Juan Marichal (got his autograph) and all the others of that era. Mays had his rookie year (post-Negro-Leagues with Chatanooga) the same year that I was born. Willie Mays was my all-time FAVORITE MLB ballplayer EVER. R I P, Willie. Rob
