A Sandian on a mission 🇺🇸 Whether at Sandia or abroad, Marine Corps veteran Joe Sandoval is dedicated to nuclear security. He joined Sandia as a security police officer in ’85 and spent decades building expertise that ultimately earned him recognition from the International Atomic Energy Agency as having led more International Physical Protection Advisory Service missions than anyone else. “The missions offer an opportunity to promote nuclear security worldwide,” said Joe, a Global Security staff member. “I have a lot of fun. I lead missions around the world. I help nuclear sites around the U.S. and the globe to do security well.” Read more about Joe’s missions: https://bit.ly/4eANz8t

Jens Stoltenberg highlighted the alliance's efforts to adapt its capabilities to current security threats NATO member states are discussing the possibilities of deploying more nuclear weapons and increasing their state of readiness. The head of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, said that on Monday (June 17). Stoltenberg told that live negotiations are now underway among Alliance members to ensure transparency around the nuclear arsenal as a deterrent. "I don't want to go into the operational details of how many nuclear warheads should be operational and which should be stored. However, we must consult on these issues. And that's exactly what we're doing," he said. "Transparency helps us communicate a direct message that we are of course a nuclear alliance," the Secretary General emphasized. U.S. Army Officer | Chair of the Board Irregular Warfare Initiative | Princeton Ph.D. Candidate | Atlantic Council Senior Fellow
Checkout the latest Irregular Warfare Initiative Podcast on the topic of the stability-instability paradox. While the name of the academic theory is wonky, I believe it is one of the most important theories for practitioners to understand IOT predict the most probable future national security challenges. Nuclear weapons make direct conventional warfare between great powers unlikely. Instead, great powers will engage each other indirectly through proxy wars and other approaches short of war -- i.e. irregular warfare. While it is important to invest in the technologies needed for LSCO, this is to deter the most dangerous COA of future conflict. Meanwhile, the most likely COA continues to manifest daily around the world. David Logan -- we have a paper to finish! Congrats to Benjamin Jebb & Matthew Moellering for this exceptional episode. In 1999, India and Pakistan fought a limited conflict under the shadow of nuclear catastrophe. On today's episode, Professors Sumit Ganguly and Tricia Bacon do a deep dive on the 1999 Kargil Conflict, examining how and why nuclear weapons often incentivize states to engage in low-intensity combat and proxy conflict. In an era of heightened tensions between nuclear superpowers, this episode augments our understanding of the nuclear dimension of warfare in a compelling and nuanced way. Russia’s Advances on Space-Based Nuclear Weapon Draw U.S. Concerns. The United States has informed Congress and its allies in Europe about Russian advances on a new, space-based nuclear weapon designed to threaten America’s extensive satellite network, according to current and former officials briefed on the matter. Such a satellite-killing weapon, if deployed, could destroy civilian communications, surveillance from space and military command-and control operations by the United States and its allies. At the moment, the United States does not have the... https://lnkd.in/d6sZnZc8

We must move quickly from identifying the problem, writing strategic doctrine to solving these problems. If the DOD states that the Joint Force (JF) must be able to fight and win on a nuclear battlefield then selective shielding technology must be a JF requirement. All the good work on modernizing detection technology is great, but what do you do after you have detected gamma radiation. If the JF is going to survive and operate on this most lethal environment then StemRad 360 is an absolute requirement!
Passive Nuclear Protection- that is the theme today at the National Defense Industrial Association - (NDIA) Quarterly Forum. We are proud anchor sponsors of this event. The topic is critical to everyone- how do our soldiers and emergency services survive in the case of a nuclear event. Great team on site with me today; Lieutenant General (retired) David Furness, Romello Williams and Miles Esters. StemRad for a safer world.

Australia has reached a new #AUKUS agreement with the US and UK on the transfer of nuclear material. Joe Biden submitted a letter to Congress and the governments of the UK and Australia outlining the new terms which supersede the existing pact. The agreement expands on the “transfer of naval nuclear propulsion plants of conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines”. The letter states: “The Agreement also enables the sale of special nuclear material contained in complete, welded power units, and other material as needed for such naval nuclear propulsion plants. “Equipment transferred in accordance with the Agreement could include equipment needed for the research, development, or design of naval nuclear propulsion plants, including their manufacture, operation, maintenance, regulation, and disposal, and could also include training, services, and program support associated with such equipment.” The latest agreement was expected as part of the next phase of the nuclear pact. The Nuclear Taskforce is meeting this week to discuss all the latest #AUKUS news and work across the nuclear industry. Taskforce members include Jasmin Diab CSC Jasmin describes herself, somewhat modestly, as a mum, leader, nerd and diversity advocate. She is also the President of Women in Nuclear (WiN) Australia the Oceania representative on the Women in Nuclear Global executive, and Managing Director of Global Nuclear Security Partners Australia, a Senior Associate with Mettle Global, a member of the ARPANSA Nuclear Safety Committee and a Fellow with Engineers Australia. On completion of her tenure as a Commanding Officer of an Engineer Regiment, she was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross in the Kings Birthday Honours 2023 for her leadership. Jasmin joined the Australian Army in 2001 and after graduating from the Australian Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College Duntroon, became a Combat Engineer with the Royal Australian Engineers. With a background in explosive ordnance disposal, Jasmin spent most of her 22 years of service providing operational and training support in countering chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats and has seen operational service both domestically and overseas. Advocate for a globally competitive #AUSTRALIANFUSIONENERGYINDUSTRY with strategic communications expertise.
Invest in Build Fusion energy generators Your talk is Nuclear (meaning only Fission) and fails to talk about fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what news is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fission fuel shortage is increasingly real, as linked below. https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr

Why America Cancelled the B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber The U.S. Air Force’s B-2 Spirit stealth bomber plays a significant role in America’s nuclear triad. So why did the U.S. Air Force build so few of these amazing weapons platforms? Capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear weapons, the multi-role bomber features low-observable stealth technology capable of penetrating even the densest anti-aircraft......
