I wanted to wish all of my professional peers a happy American Independence Day, and to remind everyone how lucky we are that our forefathers had the insights to lay the groundwork for where we are today. Nothing is perfect, and trials where freedom is, will strengthen. As professionsals, we begin each fiscal year with a new set of goals. Back in 1787, our forefathers did the same, and laid these out in what became the preamble of our Constitution. Essentially, the “objectives” of our governments foundation. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.". Take it to heart. Take it to work. Take it to sleep. These are critical objectives that we must strive to drive with passion in our work and home lives. Don’t tread on these objectives. Happy Independence Day!

Wishing all Americans a blessed Independence Day. If it has been a while since you read the Declaration of Independence, let me encourage you that there is no better day than today to fix that. It would only take you 3-5 minutes, but it would be the best 3-5 minutes of your day. The Declaration lays out the philosophical basis and justification for the Constitution (a document many of us have taken an oath, perhaps many times, to defend, possibly at the cost of our lives.) Those two documents form a coherent whole. The Declaration itself lays out the "Who/What/Why", and the Constitution build on that with "How". I hope you noted that those are 4 of the 6 elements of a good report - "Whiskey Five Hotel" (W5H - who, what, where, when, why, and how.) Have a blessed (and safe) day!

Hi LinkedIn! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! If you're a history buff, you'll find this interesting... Harford County, where I'm from in Maryland penned our country's first Declaration of Independence known as the Bush Declaration. This was in March 1775, to document their support of Boston and opposition to British control. The Bush Declaration contributed to the format and premise of the well-known United States Declaration of Independence that we celebrate every July 4th. Freedom is never quite free, as noted by the ending statement of the declaration, "At the risque of our lives and fortunes." More can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eavnmegs

Today, as many in the U.S. observe the 4th of July, I find myself reflecting on the many dimensions of independence. Whether you're celebrating or, as Gabriela Acosta wisely puts it, hoping for more reasons to celebrate next year, it’s a moment to consider the deeper meanings of freedom. Independence Day traditionally marks autonomy from monarchical rule--which is particularly poignant this year--but deserves to be met with more than unequivocal celebration. Like all things, this deserves some both/and: - BOTH celebration of the freedoms achieved AND a recognition that there's so much farther to go, at home and abroad - BOTH awareness of the freedoms we look to the powers-that-be to guarantee for us AND the freedoms we need win for ourselves by demanding and acting on them - BOTH valuing essential political and social freedoms AND recognizing the personal entanglements and inner attachments continue to inhibit true individual liberation in so many ways This year, may we recognize that there are freedoms that we look to external powers to bestow and guarantee on our behalf, and other freedoms that we can only achieve through personal development and collective action. And, may we have more to celebrate next year. #independenceday #personalgrowth #collectiveaction #freedom
