Sarcomas accounts for 1% to 2% of all cancers that affect children, adolescents, and adults under 30. Some risk factors include;- - Exposure to radiation, possibly during cancer therapy - Exposure to industrial chemicals - Exposure to human herpesvirus 8 - Family history of having other genetic diseases such as Werner syndrome, Gorlin syndrome, or retinoblastoma - Presence of Paget’s disease - Presence of lymphedema More Awareness can Increase Survivors. #sandsclinicng #healthiswealth #sarcomaawareness #sarcomaawarenessmonth🎗 #sarcoma

Interesting article in Wall Street Journal on Feb 2nd regarding new Galleri test by GRAIL which can detect tumors long before symptoms develop. The test is expensive today and not FDA approved, just as genetic testing was once out of range in cost for most Americans, and today saves many lives. The Galleri test has the potential to save lives through early detection for people who have a predisposition for cancer and doctors could recommend for patients over a certain age. The cost will come down as the test is improved, used and hopefully passed by Congress for a medicare cost for older Americans. We need every tool in our toolbox to prevent and save lives against cancer, and catching this disease early in every form is paramount. #cscde #cancersupport #cancerawareness #mentalhealthawareness https://lnkd.in/dHGPZiNi

Today is World Childhood Cancer Day Think of all the children and young people who suffer from a tumour disease. NF1 (Neurofibromatosis) is one of the so-called tumor predisposition diseases or tumor-risk diseases. Characteristic of NF1 is the development of tumors, mostly benign nerve herbors, so-called neurofibromyalgia, but also sometimes with higher risks of malignant tumors. #shinealight #diseaseawareness #rarediseaseawareness

At AMMAGENOMICS, the comprehensive diagnosis of gut microbiota, combined with other marker analysis, has significantly improved patient outcomes across various diseases. One key bacterium in this process is *Faecalibacterium prausnitzii*, known for its ability to modulate gut-related issues such as IBS, IBD, colorectal cancer, skin conditions, and even depression. As one of the most abundant bacterial species in the adult human colonic microbiota, *Faecalibacterium prausnitzii* plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of inflammatory diseases. https://lnkd.in/gJhDqy6C

How Harmful Are Microplastics? A recent study from the University of Missouri-Kansas City has revealed a 500% increase in colorectal cancer cases among children aged 10 to 14, with similar trends in teens and young adults. This alarming rise prompts critical questions about contributing factors, including the potential impact of microplastics in our environment. According to Dr. Islam Mohamed, lead researcher, this trend may be influenced by lifestyle or genetic factors, but with microplastics so prevalent in our daily lives, it’s worth asking: Could microplastics be playing a role? Early detection is essential in tackling colorectal cancer, and at IHDLab, we’re committed to providing accessible screening options. Our Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) is a simple, non-invasive test that helps detect early signs of colorectal cancer, allowing for timely intervention and care. The FIT offers a convenient way to prioritize your health and stay proactive about cancer prevention. With these findings and our FIT test, we encourage everyone to consider the importance of regular screening. Early detection can make all the difference! Three reasons to talk about breast cancer risk factors with your patients: 1. Risk assessment tools cater to a broad population of women, whether they have a family history of breast cancer. They incorporate known risk factors that may include common genetic variants in the form of polygenic risk, lifestyle, and clinical features such as breast density. 2. Risk assessments are a necessary tool to ensure patients receive personalized guidance on their breast cancer risk. 3. geneType is a general population risk assessment that shows improved discrimination over traditional models in a real-world setting, leading to superior performance in the identification of at-risk women. Only 3% of people have heard of Lynch Syndrome (Yougov, Feb 2023). Lynch Syndrome is an inherited gene alteration that increases your risk of developing some cancers, including bowel, womb and ovarian cancer (and some others to a lesser extent). It increases a person’s lifetime risk of bowel cancer to 80%, and womb cancer to 50%. It is estimated that 1 in 400-450 people in the UK have it, but 95% of them don't know. Having Lynch Syndrome does not mean you have or will get cancer, it just means you have an increased risk over your lifetime compared to someone without Lynch Syndrome. Identifying people who have Lynch Syndrome can have important benefits, from being able to prevent cancer or getting monitored to spot it as early as possible, and helping doctors decide on the best treatment for people who do develop cancer- knowledge is power. If you have a family history of bowel or womb cancer (on one side of the family) there's a chance it might be due to Lynch Syndrome. Speak to your GP and ask for a referral to your local genetics centre. You can also get in touch with our Ask Eve nurses for free and confidential information and advice by emailing nurse@eveappeal.org.uk or calling 0808 802 0019. This Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day we want to spread information about Lynch Syndrome to help people understand their risk.
