Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day (22nd March) Today is Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day. Despite being the most common inherited cancer syndrome, join us as we shed light on this under diagnosed condition. Lynch Syndrome is a genetic disorder that increases the risk to certain cancers, particularly colorectal and endometrial cancers. It is estimated that 1 in 300 people have Lynch Syndrome, but that less than 10% are aware they are a carrier. It is crucial to be aware if you have Lynch Syndrome and undergo regular screening as early detection of cancer saves lives. At Nouscom, we believe that raising awareness of Lynch Syndrome will encourage wider diagnosis and regular screening, and it is our mission to develop an effective therapy that is able to intercept the development of Lynch Syndrome related cancers. Three reasons to talk about breast cancer risk factors with your patients: 1. Risk assessment tools cater to a broad population of women, whether they have a family history of breast cancer. They incorporate known risk factors that may include common genetic variants in the form of polygenic risk, lifestyle, and clinical features such as breast density. 2. Risk assessments are a necessary tool to ensure patients receive personalized guidance on their breast cancer risk. 3. geneType is a general population risk assessment that shows improved discrimination over traditional models in a real-world setting, leading to superior performance in the identification of at-risk women. After receiving a mammogram, roughly half of all patients will be told they have dense breasts. In 2024, a new FDA mandate will require all mammogram reports to include notifications regarding a patient's breast density. Breast density can impact your breast cancer risk and also help to inform how often screening is recommended and whether you’re a good candidate for follow-up tests.
