UH Chief Financial Officer Bradley Bond, CFA, CPA, MBA, was named one of Becker's Healthcare's 160 CFOs to Know for 2024. According to Becker’s, the chief financial officers featured on this list are helming financial functions for health systems and hospitals throughout the U.S. and are instrumental in strategic financial planning, expansions and joint ventures for their organizations. In selecting Brad for the list, Becker’s noted that “Mr. Bond plays a pivotal role in implementing the organization's mission investment strategy, which is focused on community health initiatives and addressing inequities. Amidst challenging economic landscapes, Mr. Bond's leadership has steered UH through financial crises, including navigating the recession and addressing post-pandemic challenges like supply chain disruptions and workforce shortages. Under his guidance, UH has exceeded financial targets, with ongoing initiatives to deliver care at lower costs and maintain credit ratings. With over 30 years of finance executive experience, Mr. Bond's tenure has seen successful debt restructuring, bond issuances and strategic acquisitions.” Brad assumed the role of CFO at University Hospitals in February 2024 and was recognized as a "Notable Leader in Finance" by Crain's Cleveland Business earlier this year. As the end of a financial year approaches, many business owners and leaders find themselves reflecting on a year filled with unexpected challenges and roadblocks. Given this, I believe it is crucial for business owners and leaders to pause and take a step back to REFLECT, REWARD and REFRESH. These steps are not just a break from the routine; they are a fundamental practice to maintain momentum and set a positive direction for the future. 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 Start by setting aside time away from the daily grind to REFLECT on what has been achieved over the past 12 months. It is easy to get caught up in future challenges and the obstacles ahead. Use this time to acknowledge the milestones achieved and the obstacles overcome. Such a reflection is more than a self-congratulatory pat on the back; it is about gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of the journey you have been on. 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 Next, it’s important to REWARD yourself and the team for the hard work and accomplishments of the past year. Recognizing and celebrating these achievements is essential for building and maintaining motivation and morale. Rewarding the team not only demonstrates their efforts are valued but also helps to recharge their collective energy. This will create a positive atmosphere and sets a hopeful and enthusiastic tone for the upcoming year. 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 Finally, use this time to revisit and REFRESH your goals and strategies for the coming year. Assess what worked well and what did not and use those learnings to make any required adjustments. This ensures there is a clear and actionable plan to take advantage of the opportunities that arise and deal with challenges that will arise over the next 12 months By integrating these three steps into your year-end routine, you will approach the new financial year with a positive mindset and a renewed sense of purpose. This practice not only honours past achievements but also equips you to seize future opportunities and navigate challenges with confidence and optimism. Embrace this moment to celebrate how far you’ve come, and to prepare for the exciting journey ahead.
