✈️🌍 That was fun! Here are the takeaways from my recent discussion about the 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 project and its mission to make travel accessible for all: 1️⃣ We started by framing the project’s mission: 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 and setting the stage for the complex challenges ahead. 2️⃣ We explored how legal changes related to disability ripple across service providers, highlighting the 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲'𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. 3️⃣ We considered the needs of an 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and introduced the concept of “age-friendly businesses” to cater to this growing demographic. 4️⃣ The conversation turned to the vital role of 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, particularly for individuals living with dementia, underscoring the importance of tailored support. 5️⃣ Lastly, we broadened the focus to include 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, calling for kindness and understanding to create a positive experience for all. Day Six of Kwanzaa Message: Kuumba (Creativity) Habari Gani? Kuumba! Today, we celebrate Kuumba (Creativity)—the principle that calls us to use our talents and imagination to make our communities better than we found them. Kuumba inspires us to dream, create, and innovate while honoring the beauty of our culture and heritage. Creativity is a gift we all share, and it plays a powerful role in building a brighter future. Reflect on these questions today: How can I use my creativity to bring joy and improvement to my community? What can I create today that leaves a positive and lasting impact? Ways to Practice Kuumba: 1. Create Together: Collaborate with others to design a project that enhances your neighborhood, like a community garden or mural. 2. Celebrate Art: Support local artists, musicians, or performers who contribute to the cultural richness of your community. 3. Innovate: Find a new and creative way to solve a challenge in your home, workplace, or neighborhood. Upcoming Opportunities to Embrace Kuumba: 1. Self-Care Challenge in January – Explore creative ways to care for yourself and others. 2. Healing Circle in February – Join a safe space for creative expression and shared growth. 3. March 8 Health Fair and Vendor Marketplace – Showcase and support the creativity of local vendors while improving community health. Book Recommendation: Consider reading "Children of Blood and Bone" by Tomi Adeyemi, a powerful work that highlights creativity, imagination, and the resilience of community. Kuumba reminds us that each of us has a unique creative spark that can bring beauty, joy, and progress to the world. Let’s celebrate this principle by creating something meaningful today and every day. With creativity and hope, Dr. J. Michelle Vann Evangelist of Wellness Let’s build a better world with creativity!
