This session of the Advisory Forum was very interesting. I mainly talked about how systematic review should be viewed as a method for evidence synthesis that is built around limitations of human capacity when dealing with knowledge stored as sheets of paper. AI is another set of computational tools that further encourage us to break out of the paper-based paradigm: that manuscripts should be derived from data, not data from manuscripts.

Today we release some interesting guidance for members and perspective members on some of the cogs behind the machinery; how to get involved in committees, an overview of our varied sections and how we interconnect with bodies in the UK and overseas! 'BSIA elected committee members: a guide to duties and responsiblities': this guide lays out how we manage the various sections of membership. This includes how decisions are made, how rules are created, amended and changed, and how committees are constituted. Each section has members that are elected onto its section committee, and from that committee, we appoint a chair (and where possible a vice chair) for an agreed period of time. If you're a BSIA member looking to get more involved this is a handy guide on how you can put yourself forward to take part in our sections and committees. Yesterday evening, I had the opportunity to present some thoughts on major challenges facing the financial services sector on their road to the #Digitalsociety. The core topics were Green IT, Cybercrime and Open Finance. The presentation was well received and accompanied by an intense discussion, which showed that we not only have big threats to overcome, but that there are also a multitude of opportunities. Banks, insurers, and other financial service providers that adapt quickly to the challenges will find ways to position themselves well in the coming digital society.
