Love this! Shoutout to The Players’ Tribune team on this one! It's a fascinating discussion - 'Building Authentic Brand Equity in the Athlete Community' - and Jenna Hackerman Klein and Paige Graham are rockstars! Although I wasn't able to attend the event since I'm in Dallas, and it took place in NYC, the insights shared resonate deeply with me and my beliefs on this idea of an Athlete Community. Here are some key points that I've always thought about when I think of athlete brand equity: 1. Trust is Paramount: Athletes are more than just endorsers; they are creative partners. Building genuine trust through transparent and respectful relationships ensures long-term success and mutual growth. 2. Authenticity Wins: Today's audience craves that real talk. Athletes who align their personal values with the brands they represent create authentic narratives that resonate deeply with fans, driving both engagement and loyalty. Just Google "Anthony Edwards" in his latest AE1 campaign with Adidas...brilliant! 3. Cultural Influence: We all know athletes are powerful cultural influencers. Their ability to shape brand narratives and drive cultural trends underscores the importance of collabs (initiated by the athlete) to create more meaningful and impactful stories. 4. Alignment of Values: Of course, successful athlete-brand partnerships thrive on shared values. And when brands and athletes holistically align their missions and visions, it's so much better when it comes to creating compelling and consistent messages. Just wanted to share that. Here’s another great example of Heinz nailing their culture-first partnership marketing strategy.   In response to social media comments drawing comparisons between (red) Deadpool and (yellow) Wolverine, Heinz US have officially partnered with Disney’s highly anticipated cinema release, Deadpool & Wolverine, to promote their Ketchup & Mustard.   Fans can get their hands on exclusive cosplay costumes to dress their Heinz bottles, while a bespoke ad is delivered with classic Deadpool humour.   A couple of thoughts for brands keen to replicate Heinz’s approach:   - Use always-on social listening to understand what your audience and their communities are talking about and asking for   - Give audiences what they want with authentic, buzz-worthy and timely partnerships, content, offers and prizes (sometimes this needs to be at pace!)   - Consider how your business is structured for success: can you spot the opportunity, negotiate the partnership and activate it (across markets if needs be) efficiently and effectively?   The more your brand activates in this way, the more habitually and automatically people will spot and create fun connections, hard-wiring your brand in the cultural narrative.   #Brands #Culture #PartnershipMarketing #Heinz
