We'll attend the LGBTQ+ Cancer Conference hosted by OUTpatients on 2 November in London. The conference is aimed at professionals working in oncology and its allied fields, and patient advocates who are keen to learn more about the LGBTQ+ sector. Attendance is free and will also be livestreamed.

As a member of the #LGBTQ+ community and a cancer survivor, I want to flag this #PrideMonth conversation featuring Northeast Business Group on Health and National LGBT Cancer Network. Kim Thiboldeaux, the CEO of NEBGH, led a national patient-focused cancer organization for more than two decades. Her experience is on display as she and Scout from the National LGBT Cancer Network discuss our community's experience with cancer. As someone who has filled out the network's surveys, I can attest to their commitment to documenting how a cancer diagnosis disrupts a queer person's life that are not readily apparent to our allies. Of note, they talked about how employers (here's looking at you, ERGs) can create an environment that support LGBTQ employees. Here are quick takes: 1. Value the people in your organization, and recognize the value they bring with their diverse experiences. 2. Tailor content on wellness programs and insurance coverage to address the medical mistrust or specialty needs of this population. 3. Beyond the ERG, be sure to incorporate the queer expertise into your business model to ensure your company is distinguishing itself as a safe, inclusive resource for LGBTQ clients. Thanks for sharing the content, Christian Waugh. #ERG #LGBTQ #PrideMonth #Engagement #Healthcare
NEBGH's CEO, Kim Thiboldeaux has a powerful conversation with Scout, Executive Director from the National LGBT Cancer Network. They discuss current initiatives, trainings that are available and the ways employers can celebrate and promote the diversity of their LGBTQI+ communities not only during Pride Month but throughout the whole year. Gender equality is an important topic of discussion and needs to be looked at holistically within the community. There is a need to have a gender balance when it comes to opportunities in any profession, including the medical field, particularly Oncology, that has seen tremendous growth and opportunities over the years. We have come across many talented medical professionals from both genders. It is important that we consciously work towards creating a balance, talk about any position, from the junior most up to leadership levels, across departments. Would be great to hear from you all on this pertinent subject of gender equality in Oncology! #genderequality #oncology #cancercareer #medicalcareer #oncologycareer #career

I had the privilege of being invited to participate in a panel at the 2024 Cervical Cancer Summit powered by Cervivor, Inc. this afternoon. The session called 'Inclusive Screening: Breaking Down Barriers in the LGBTQIA+ Community' touched on so many topics including, 1) Invisible populations - LGBTQI+ folks are invisible in our national cancer health data. Data Equity IS Health Equity 2) Locating affirming providers - How DO we find affirming and LGBTQI+ competent providers? Are all providers who say they are LGBTQI+ competent really mean that they are trans, nonbinary, and/or intersex affirming? 3) Aggressively gendered cancer spaces - When we make pelvic cancer spaces more inclusive we elevate the care for everyone. Because I always like to provide resources, even though I don't always have the answers. Do you work within the cancer care continuum? Happy International Women's Day. 🎉 🌍 🔦 This year’s theme #EmbracingEquity casts a spotlight on the need for a world where difference is valued and celebrated, recognizing that true inclusion and equality can only be achieved when we ensure that everyone has the resources, opportunities, and support tailored to their unique circumstances. Equity is key to bridging the gap in female cancer care and improving outcomes. OncoHealth's Dr. Meera Ravindranathan wrote about this important issue in a recently published article for KevinMD.
