Cameroon has announced that 6,000 km of roads will be asphalted for the National Development Strategy 2030 (SND30). A national bitumen factory is being built for this purpose. Road construction costs in Cameroon are slightly more than twice the African average. What do you think are the reasons for this? #Sarenolia * #Colonialism #ConstructionPolicies #GlobalConstructionPolicies

#Tecon formwork #South Africa #Construction material The construction industry is one of the four major sectors in the South African industrial sector and is also a key engine driving the country's economic growth. In 2021, the South African construction market has reached $29 billion in size. South Africa, one of the largest economies on the continent, has experienced significant growth in its construction materials industry over the past few years. This growth is largely attributed to policies such as the National Infrastructure Plan (NIP) introduced by the South African government. The core objective of the NIP is the development of infrastructure across the country, including investments in transportation, communications, water and sanitation. In addition to this, South Africa's population growth, rapid urbanization, and rising demand for affordable housing. China is South Africa's largest source of building materials imports, of which building materials products accounted for about 26% of South Africa's annual imports, the two sides have very close trade relations. China is South Africa's ceramics, steel, alloys and hardware and other building materials, the first source of imports.

Levels of economic growth in South Africa over the past ten years have not led to needed growth in construction activity and associated industries, such as the sawn timber sector. Current government has a vision of “turning South Africa into a construction site” through increased economic growth, something the sawn timber industry is in desperate need of. The lack of required growth as well as the correlation between GDP and construction activity, shown by the trend in the total number of people employed, and the sawn timber industry, is illustrated in the chart below. #CrickmayandAssociates #SouthAfrica #TimberIndustry #MakingaDifferencewithData #SawnTimberIndustry

Africa’s modern tale of progress and promise As a Nigerian with strong ties to and work experience in Africa, I'm deeply intrigued by the continent’s burgeoning construction scene, despite prevailing challenges. Remarkable projects like Angola's Lobito Atlantic Railway and Rwanda's Kigali International Airport epitomize Africa's commitment to progress. I'm particularly enthralled by the growing emphasis on sustainability, as seen in Ethiopia's eco-conscious One World Trade Center. It underscores Africa's dedication to innovation and environmental stewardship. Closer to home, efforts towards affordable housing solutions resonate deeply. They not only tackle urbanization but also showcase the resourcefulness and resilience of African communities. Looking ahead, I am optimistic as global investments fuel advancements in sustainability and technology. Despite hurdles like political instability and labour shortages, Africa's construction sector marches on, shaping our continent's future. It is a great pleasure to see how construction is simplifying and changing lives, making tomorrow a better place for all. An equal example of a trusted organization that share great interest in the development of construction in Africa is ConstructAfrica whom I follow for latest news and possible collaboration for in seeing UAE companies interested in the Africa market provide them access #construction #Africa #sustainability #innovation #GlobalInvestment #growth https://lnkd.in/dKx88M5T

Jordan's construction sub-sector has good potential for growth due to abundant mineral reserves and construction materials coupled with access to regional and international markets through FTAs, as identified in the Economic Modernization Vision. The USAID Economic Reform Activity works in partnership with key industry players such as Jordan Exports and the A/E Business Council to enhance the export readiness and competitiveness of Jordanian firms through capacity building, participation in international exhibitions, institutional support, and knowledge resources. The activity also supports the Ministry of Investment - Jordan to foster investment opportunities. These efforts support Jordan's priority industries, including construction, to ultimately increase demand for skilled workers and encourage further investment and innovation. #USAIDERA #Jordan #JORDANEXPORTS #AEBusinessCouncil #InvestJO

🇪🇹 The largest dam in #Africa! Located 700 km north west of the capital of #Ethiopia along the Blue Nile, at the end of the works the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will be the largest dam in the continent and among the top 10 in the world: 1,800 m long, 170 m high and with a total volume of 10.4 million m³. The project involves the construction of a main dam in Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC), with 2 power stations installed at the foot of the dam, and is completed by a 15,000 m3/s capacity concrete spillway and a rockfill saddle dam. Once it is put into service, the #GERD will increase the amount of electricity produced in the country by 270% and bolster Ethiopia’s role as an energy exporter to neighboring countries. #Webuild #CleanHydroEnergy 👉 https://bit.ly/4b3W0pR
