Breaking News: TidalKite (SeaQurrent®) secures €2.5 Million from Waddenfonds TidalKite has received €2.5 million in support from the Waddenfonds for the PROSIT project, aimed at further developing and improving the TidalKite underwater kite. Key Points: Grant: €2.5 million from the Waddenfonds. Objective: Development and optimisation of the TidalKite technology. The TidalKite generates green energy from water currents. The project includes improvements to seabed anchoring and ecological integration, with monitoring of kite noise impact on marine life. The ultimate goal is commercial readiness, with a potential 5 MW installation at Borndiep, Ameland. Successful scaling could provide half of the clean energy needs for the Wadden Islands from 2026 onwards. This innovative project is a game-changer for the 800 residents, offering much-needed power to their homes and businesses. The minigrid features a 40-kW solar array, a 150-kWh battery energy storage system, a 50-kV generator, and a 5-kilometer underground distribution network. It's designed to boost economic growth by supporting local agriculture and tourism, as well as improving the overall quality of life. This project not only highlights the potential of solar minigrids but also represents a crucial step towards sustainable development in West Africa. With similar projects rolling out across the region, including Nigeria, The Gambia, and Togo, we are witnessing a powerful shift towards clean energy and economic empowerment. To address this challenge, renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydropower have gained significant attention in recent years. However, another promising source of renewable energy that has gained attention is Ocean Bioenergy from Sargassum seaweed. There are several advantages to using Sargassum seaweed as a source of Ocean Bioenergy. One of the primary advantages is its high growth rate. Sargassum can grow up to 60 cm in length in just one week, making it an environmentally sustainable resource and a highly productive and renewable resource for energy production. “ …Last year, she said, the Secretariat of the Navy was assigned about $3 million to collect sargassum at sea using its ships and anchorage barriers, while the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone was assigned about $7 million more to collect it from beaches. The successful commencement of the Horizon Europe PEDvolution project's first Executive Board meeting marks the beginning of an exciting journey toward advancing #PositiveEnergyDistricts (PEDs) in Europe. With a focus on #innovation , collaboration, and adaptability, PEDvolution is set to redefine the landscape of sustainable #urbandevelopment . PEDvolution is a collaborative initiative coordinated by INLECOM, aiming to revolutionize the integration and evolution of PEDs. European pioneers in #PED conceptualization, implementation, and tool development are joining forces to co-develop seven interoperable solutions that will shape the future of PEDs. The #PEDvolution solutions will evaluate and improve the “PED Readiness Level” according to the four genes of the PED genotype: social, technology, interoperability, and market. These are influenced by their interaction within the PED and its environment (PED phenotype).
