Nice visit at the office today ✨ The Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Jan Christian Vestre, stopped by to learn more about our business. President and CEO Morten Fon and Chairman of the Board Odd Gleditsch d.y. took on the roles as hosts, serving Mr. Vestre a tour of our headquarters, a status presentation and a delicious cup of coffee ☕ Some key topics of discussion: ✅ How can a paint manufacturer play a key role in the green economy? ✅ Can politicians give companies predictability – in a rapidly changing world? ✅ And finally: an international school is a prerequisite for operating Jotun out of Sandefjord.

Last week I was pleased to attend the Annual General Meeting of FEVE – the European Container Glass Federation. With 60 corporate members belonging to approximately 20 independent corporate groups, FEVE's dedication significantly propels our industry forward, orchestrating an annual production of over 80 billion glass containers. A pivotal component of our strategy is the Close The Glass Loop initiative, launched in 2020. This platform is a testament to our collaborative spirit, bringing together various stakeholders to enhance the collection and recycling of glass across Europe. Our achievements thus far are commendable, with a current recycling rate of 80.1%. Looking ahead, we are setting ambitious targets: to achieve an average EU collection rate of 90% for used glass packaging by 2030. This goal is more than a milestone; it's a steppingstone towards actualizing our vision of a circular economy and a sustainable future. 🌏 We’re thrilled to kick off “Building Trust and Equity: Responsible Purchasing as the New Norm” this afternoon! Speakers have been selected for their expertise and commitment to advancing responsible purchasing practices within the industry. Their diverse insights will enrich our discussions and provide new perspectives on how we can collectively drive positive change. Two key panel discussions will guide the conversation forward. The first panel will explore how businesses can adapt to new legislative requirements while advancing Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD). Moderated by Fair Wear Foundation’s Alexander Kohnstamm, the panel will feature experts such as Dorothy Lovell from the OECD - OCDE, Richard Wilhelm from Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control , Maravillas Rodriguez Zarco from Cascale, Abrar Sayem from the BGMEA and STTI - Sustainable Terms of Trade Initiative, and Alke Boessiger from UNI Global Union. The second panel will focus on practical strategies for embedding responsible purchasing into business operations. Moderated by Kristin Apffelstaedt from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the session will include insights from Veronique Camerer of the International Accord, Dr. Vidhura Ralapanawe of Epic Group, Maria Venus of Fenix Outdoor, Robert Hellwig of ORTOVOX, and Tandiwe Gross from ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation). This discussion will highlight how responsible purchasing can drive sustainable production and fair outcomes for all stakeholders, moving beyond compliance to a future where ethical production is the norm. In addition to the panels, Gopinath Parakuni of Cividep India will offer insights into the workers' perspective, Lisa Süß from the Working Group on Responsible Purchasing Practices will address the establishment of strong foundations for supply chain accountability, including the draft Accountability Framework on Responsible Purchasing Practices, and Daniel Schönfelder from the Responsible Contracting Project will present mechanisms for implementing responsible purchasing. The hosts for the day will be Fair Wear Foundation’s Karen Diaz and Felicia Höer from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. By bringing diverse voices into the room, the event aims to foster a deeper understanding of the interconnected impacts of social, environmental, and commercial practices, and to create a space where real solutions can be crafted. “Celebrating Scotland’s Iconic Scotch Whisky Industry” was the subject of The Scottish Government business at Parliament yesterday afternoon 🥃 Worth a listen with a dram, Parliament welcomed the reported £7.1 billion each year that is contributed in added value to the UK economy by the Scotch whisky industry through the production of high-quality and internationally successful brands, which are sold to 180 markets around the world; noting that 75% of the Scotch whisky industry's gross value added (GVA) is generated in Scotland, supporting 41,000 jobs and a further 25,000 across the UK; welcoming the over £2 billion of investments that have reportedly been made by the industry over the last five years; recognising that the Scotch whisky industry plays a crucial role in Scotland’s ambition to grow its exports, in attracting visitors from overseas to its world-leading visitor experiences, and in decarbonising operations in order to achieve net zero by 2045, and wished everyone involved in Scotland’s iconic Scotch whisky industry continued success as, it considers, they continue to play an integral role in communities throughout Scotland. https://lnkd.in/evYAkb8n
