Satyadeep Mishra’s Post

#satyavachan - 2nd post / 2024 Came across a very witty post from Steffen Roehn on the Glassdoor Best Places to Work for 2024 list today and got curious to read up more. While browsing the list of companies in the 2024 edition, I came across this section titled "Top CEOs 2021 list" - essentially a list based on Approval Rates for the CEO from the current and past employees of an org. The Top 15 names have 96% or higher approval rates!!! The list has 2 Indian-origin CEOs - Satya Nadella & Shantanu Narayen (a moment of pride for me and am sure many other Indians). However, one name that took me back to a case study I read during my MBA days (now that's 2.5 decades ago!) was that of Gary Kelly of #southwestairlines. Gary enjoys an enviable 98% approval rate and has co-created the iconic culture at Southwest that many airline companies have tried mimicking but have not been successful. Did some more research and came across this very powerful para from an online post from 2012 - **Many industry observers doubted Southwest’s culture could survive without Kelleher at the helm, but it has fared well under the lower-key leadership of CEO Gary Kelly. “Our people are our single greatest strength and most enduring long-term competitive advantage,” Kelly says. “All of our people do know what is right, and they feel empowered to act on it. That hasn’t changed.”** Here's a short yet fascinating video (2.5 mins) where Southwest's Founder and Chairman Emeritus Herb Kelleher and Gary Kelly talk about Southwest, the future, and thoughts on Leadership. This is a 2014 video but still very very relevant for most - https://lnkd.in/dbjrEpWG Key messages - 1) On change management - if things change faster outside your company than they change inside your company, you have something to worry about. "What we are talking about here is your future. If you don't change, you don't have One!" 2) On Culture - "Even if we wanted our employees to stop serving our customers, I just don't think they can do that. It's in their hearts" ❤️ 3) On Leadership - "it means a number of things but mostly to me it means just caring about our people" Thanks Steffen Roehn for the post...I learnt (rehashed rather) something new today. BTW, congrats to you & team Bain & Company for topping the chart :) #customerisking #employeefirst #culture #leadershiplegacy
