✨ How Untraditional MBA Classes Helped Me Find My Strengths ✨ Last year, I spent most of my time questioning where I fit in the business world. As a Physical Therapist who had already launched two businesses, I still found myself feeling more lost than ever. Surrounded by peers who seemed to have everything figured out (even when I knew they didn’t), I questioned what I brought to the table. Was it enough? Did anyone want what I had to offer? This year has been different. My internship, combined with untraditional classes like Design Thinking and Improvisation—focused on creative problem-solving and adaptability—reassured me that there is a place for someone like me in the business world. These classes, unlike finance or analytics, helped me see that my true strengths lie in innovative thinking and strategy. My diverse background is an asset, not a disadvantage. 💡 What I Learned I am a creator, an innovator, and a strategist. I thrive on seeing challenges from new perspectives and building strategies to solve them. Design Thinking pushed me to approach problems creatively and empathetically, while Improvisation taught me the value of adaptability and quick thinking—skills that have already proven invaluable in my work. While I respect the hard skills of business—finance, accounting, negotiations—my true value lies in building teams and crafting innovative strategies. I don’t just follow paths—I create them. ✨ A Message for Those Feeling the Same To any fellow MBA students (or professionals) feeling out of place: You belong. What you bring to the table is valuable, even if you don’t see it yet. Sometimes, it takes the right people or untraditional experiences to help you see your true strengths. 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐𝟏: 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐁𝐀𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 Yesterday, I turned 21, which makes me one of the youngest MBAs in my cohort. It’s always an interesting conversation starter when I mention I’m pursuing an MBA at this age. My peers often respond with a mix of surprise and curiosity—"You’re just 20? Why start so early?" they’d ask. And truth be told, I had similar thoughts when I first found myself surrounded by people with internships, work experience, and industry knowledge. Here I was, fresh out of graduation, already diving into the world of an MBA. So, why pursue an MBA at such a young age? Coming from a BBA background, it seemed like a natural progression. But jumping into it right after graduation? That decision wasn’t the result of years of careful planning; it was more of a “go with the flow” moment for me. Over the past few months, I’ve come to realize that being young in an MBA program comes with its own unique set of challenges and opportunities. Sure, I may lack the professional experience that many of my peers have, but what I do have is the energy, enthusiasm, and drive to learn. The diversity in my cohort - people from different fields, backgrounds, and industries -provides a learning experience that no textbook can offer. I get to absorb knowledge from every interaction, every conversation. Being a fresher has its advantages too. I’m coming into this with a fresh perspective, an open mind, and a hunger to soak up as much knowledge as I can. I don’t have the weight of past experiences, and I’m willing to experiment, learn, and grow without hesitation. There are times when I see my peers applying their work experience so smoothly, and while it might make me pause and reflect, I’ve learned to focus on my own strengths. I’m here to learn, to take in as much as I can, and this is my opportunity to grow. Do I feel less experienced? Yes. Am I excited to learn? Absolutely, without a doubt. Will I give up? Not a chance. Reflecting on my 2 year experience, the blend of rigorous coursework and hands-on projects has prepared me for real-world challenges. I'm grateful for this journey and eager to apply these insights in my professional endeavours. In the whirlwind of MBA life, I discovered a knack for making friends, bonding over shared struggles from nerve-wracking orientations to caffeine fueled study sessions. From themed parties with PowerPoint presentations to "strategic planning" sessions at the local bar, every moment was ripe for camaraderie and laughter. Networking events became opportunities for mingling while discreetly checking LinkedIn profiles. Despite challenges like solving case studies after one too many cups of coffee, the journey wasn't just about earning a degree but about friendships forged over late-night pizza runs and group projects gone awry. As the new MBA session begins and I see many students updating their LinkedIn profiles, it makes me nostalgic, taking me back to the days when I was anxiously and excitedly awaiting the start of my own MBA journey. Reflecting on my experiences, here are a few takeaways I'd like to share: 🔷Be Open to Ideas: You'll meet people from diverse backgrounds. Be eager and curious to learn from them and understand their work or internship experiences. This will broaden your understanding of different domains. 🔷Ask Questions: Don't hesitate to ask questions in class or among your peers. One of my biggest mistakes was not asking questions, thinking I would figure things out later. It's always better to clear any doubts immediately. 🔷Read and Solve Case Studies:Engage with case studies to understand different scenarios and use cases. This practice will be invaluable when you face real-world challenges in a corporate setting. 🔷Participate in Competitions: While participating in competitions, remember that not everyone can win. Focus on the learning experience rather than the outcome. Analyze your performance and implement the lessons learned. 🔷Navigate Politics: You'll encounter politics during placements, group assignments, and committee work. These experiences will prepare you for corporate politics. 🔷Make Connections and Network: Build connections not just for future advantages, but also to have friends and mentors who can guide you. My MBA journey - Reflecting on Failures and Growth: 📍 During my first year of MBA, I suffered heavily because of academic intensity, trying to adjust to the fast pace of the program and transitioning into a different lifestyle altogether 📍 No matter how much I tried to stay positive, I ended up comparing myself to others and being nervous and anxious 📍 There were days when I did not feel like doing anything at all which only made me feel worse 📍 During my summer internship, I poured my heart and soul into the project, but unfortunately it did not translate into a PPO 📍 I participated in several corporate case competitions, investing countless hours preparing and strategising. Despite my best efforts, I didn’t always clinch the top spot Failure was a constant companion on this journey but it was also my greatest teacher. It allowed me to seek support, develop coping mechanisms, revisit my strategies of doing things and developing within me a willingness to learn and improve. As I step into the professional world, I carry these lessons with me, knowing that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. Remember, behind every smiling face you see on social media, there is a person facing their own challenges. Let this be a gentle nudge to practise kindness towards yourself and others. They weren't kidding when they said an MBA changes you. The past two years have been a rollercoaster of late nights, endless study sessions, and more group projects than I can count. But amid the chaos, something amazing happened—I grew. The pressure cooker of an MBA program has been instrumental in honing my leadership skills, pushing me to take on responsibilities and emerge as a future leader in my field. The learning has been immense—both academically and personally. The theories and frameworks learned in the classrooms have been complemented by the practical insights gained through internships.   The campus wasn't just a physical space; it was a canvas where ideas were painted, dreams were crafted, and futures were envisioned. Faculty members weren't just educators but mentors who guided, challenged, and inspired. As the last semester unfolded, the anxiety of placements loomed large. However, the skills acquired, the networks built, and the resilience developed throughout the journey bore fruit. The moment I received that coveted job offer, it was a professional milestone. Sure, there were stressful moments, exhaustion, and some "what am I doing?" thoughts. But these two years transformed me. I found my voice, broadened my horizons, and built a network for life. Is an MBA worth it? Ask me in 10 years. For now, I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. It's not just a degree; it's a passport to a future filled with possibilities. P.S.
