Professionals across the career spectrum have moments where they fear they’re already obsolete, or becoming so. Different than the occasional bout of self-doubt, fearing obsolescence means we fundamentally question our professional significance. When we over-indulge the fear, it creates cognitive distortions of ourselves, others, and our environment that can bring us to the worst versions of ourselves. Whether you’re early in your career and facing a lifetime of technological and economic disruption, or later in your career and questioning your future relevance to the world, feelings of obsolescence don’t have to mire you in fear or futility. The question isn’t how to avoid these feelings, but rather how to spot evidence you’re having them and address them in healthy, honest ways.

Helping executives and senior leaders to future proof their careers based on my 33 years as a career coach. If and when they need to, they can hit the ground running to find their next ideal career move | Career Coaching
DO YOU HAVE A VISION FOR YOUR FUTURE? Have you written down where you plan to be in your career in 1 year, 2 years and 5 year’s time? If you have then I commend you, if not then I urge you to put pen to paper. No one else can do this for you, but if you don’t do it your career is likely to lapse into a comfort zone with zero growth. You will undoubtedly relax into complacency and relinquish control of your career to others, in particular to your line manager, others in your company or the vagaries of the employment market. But reflect on the following: 1. These people do not have your best interests at heart, they have their own. 2. They don’t have your well-being in mind, they have their own. 3. They are not concerned about looking after you or your family, they have their own. 4. They are not interested in your financial future, they have their own to think about. 5. The future security of your career is of no interest to them, they have their own to secure. If you'd like some help to develop your career vision for the future, DM me and let's arrange a time and date for a chat. #proteuscareermanagement #ambition #careeradvice #careerplanning #complacency #careercoaching #careermentoring
