Bit of help required please ~ The Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) which overseas Jewellery, Silverware and the Allied Trades – our craft and industry – is currently out to consultation in ratifying the 2003 EU Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Our sector falls within this. The deadline for response is 11:50pm, Thursday 29th February – today. Why is this important? Because we, as a sector need to get our traditional hand and crafts skills recognised in order to create the mechanism for government level support for the sector in the future. This will have an implication on policy from education, skills training and business support funding. Please give 5 minutes of your professional working day to fill out this form – remember what we do within our sector (Jewellery, Silverware and the Allied Trades including engraving, wax carving, horology, diamond and gemstone mounting, gem cutting and polishing, spinning, polishing, metal refining, gold plating an gilding to name a few, is not universally understood – which is why it is important to safeguard it. Restoration of a 15th century choir book that belonged to the Spaniard Queen Isabella the Catholic. The book was fully restored using materials similar to those used to make it. The use of any type of synthetic material was avoided. The aesthetic premise was based on the Japanese concept of wabi sabi. The photos show, in the top one, the state of the book before restoration. In the middle, below, part of the dismantling process, wood and leather reinforcements. Below the book after finishing the work.

Bottom Right (Blue): This quadrant remains mostly plain, with heavy texture creating tension with the red area and white. black lines Throughout the painting, visible brush strokes add depth and texture, inviting interpretation. The overall mood is abstract, leaving room for personal meaning and imagination. Art occasionally is subjective, and everyone may perceive this painting differently.
