Scania has just unveiled its next-generation biogas engine, promising to revolutionize transportation with an invisible fuel. This new 13-litre biogas engine offers up to 5% fuel savings and significantly reduced CO2 emissions. It achieves 30% less CO2 emissions on average and up to 90% reduction with biomethane-based solutions. Available in 420 or 460 hp, these engines are perfect for long-haul operations, especially in Europe and America. They also run quieter for a more comfortable driving experience. DB Cargo (UK) Limited is transitioning to eco-friendly HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel. The German freight carrier DB Cargo UK has announced that all its #trains servicing the company’s biogas plant Drax Group will switch to HVO fuel. This decision is driven by the goal to significantly reduce carbon #emissions. Each year, DB Cargo UK #transports around 4.5 million tons of biomass to ports, from where the cargo is delivered to Drax Group’s plant in Selby. Approximately 60 trains are used weekly for this volume of work, totalling around 3,000 trains per year. The switch to HVO will cut #carbondioxide emissions by 90%, equivalent to a reduction of 12,000 tons of carbon per year. HVO is one of the cleanest fuels, produced through the synthetic hydroprocessing of vegetable oils and animal fats. This type of fuel reduces emissions of both carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. In March 2023, DB Cargo UK successfully conducted HVO trials in the #UK on Class 67 locomotives. Previously, in September 2022, DB Regio converted 57 diesel trains to #biofuel in Baden-Württemberg.
