Although the LGBTQ+ community can experience higher rates of intimate partner violence, the first statewide study of Orders of Protection in South Carolina found that of the 2377 cases reviewed from 2019, only 22 were filed by same sex partners. June is PRIDE month, and protecting LGBTQ+ youth from the risks involved with substance-use disorder (SUD) and addiction is paramount. According to SAHMSA, about one third of bisexual males, bisexual females, and gay males had an SUD in the past year. About one fourth of lesbian females had an SUD in the past year.
