🌟 Excited to Share My Spring 2024 Research Experience! 🌟 This past Spring, I had the incredible opportunity to work as an undergraduate researcher under the guidance of Dr. Amanda Regan through the Creative Inquiry program at Clemson University. 🎓🔬 In this role, I took on the fascinating project of transforming data from the Damron Gay Guides into an interactive mapping tool. 🗺️📊 For those unfamiliar, the Damron Guides have long been a vital resource for the LGBTQ+ community, providing information on safe and welcoming spaces across various locations and years. My task involved: - Mapping Data: I plotted addresses from the Damron Gay Guides onto an interactive map. - Interactive Features: The map allows users to explore data by year, type of location, and amenity categorizations used in each year’s guide. - User Experience: With filter controls, users can easily navigate and visualize the historical evolution of LGBTQ+ friendly spaces. This project not only enhanced my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of the important role that such resources play in our communities. 🌍❤️ A huge thank you to Dr. Regan for her mentorship and support throughout this process. 🙏💡 I’m thrilled to share this work and look forward to seeing how it contributes to ongoing discussions and research in this field. Feel free to check out the interactive map below and let me know your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/eWDVf-xG #Research #UndergraduateResearch #DataVisualization #LGBTQ #DamronGuides #InteractiveMap #ClemsonUniversity #AcademicResearch #MappingHistory

In a time when state-level policies in Florida have created uncertainty for LGBTQ+ folx, it’s heartening to see local communities banding together to promote a welcoming and inclusive message. This article showcases how LGBTQ+ friendly destinations in Florida are stepping up, uniting to show that their doors remain open to all—travelers, residents, and businesses alike. These local efforts are essential for creating safe spaces where LGBTQ+ folx can feel seen, valued, and supported, regardless of the broader political climate. At SAGE, we understand that real change often begins on the ground, in our neighborhoods and communities. We work with local partners to ensure LGBTQ+ older adults have access to affirming services, resources, and spaces. Florida’s localities are a perfect example of how we can all work together to foster inclusion and resilience at the grassroots level. Let’s continue to uplift and support these initiatives, knowing that local action is critical to creating safe and inclusive spaces for all. #LGBTQ #Florida #Inclusion #LocalImpact #CommunitySupport #SAGEServes #LGBTQTravel

VISIT FLORIDA quietly removes reference to LGBTQ Tourism: https://lnkd.in/dJBVCFd6 The IGLTA response: Our recent research shows that over 80% of LGBTQ+ travelers from the US view Florida as somewhat or very unwelcoming. Removing resources that specifically address the needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ travelers could further deter this vital market segment. That said, we also want to reiterate that IGLTA has many member businesses and destinations throughout Florida that value inclusion. We will always support them in their efforts to make LGBTQ+ travelers feel welcomed and safe. The IGLTA Foundation recently released a report titled “State Policy Impact on LGBTQ+ Tourism,” which underscores the economic impact of LGBTQ+ travelers: https://lnkd.in/d7FpMxRV #Florida #lgbtq Dougal Mckenzie LoAnn Halden Renato Gagliardi Anthony Warner Clark Massad Allison Mazzeo Nicolò Manfredini #diversity IGLTA Foundation Skift Travel Weekly Travel + Leisure Co.
