The manufacturer of faucets and showers from Germany is now placed among the top 1% of all 130,000 companies assessed after winning this award. This is the third time that the company has used the annual systematic evaluation of the globally recognised rating to analyse progress, identify the potential for improvement and create greater transparency regarding its sustainability performance thanks to comparable benchmarks from a neutral service provider. Tap water in the EU ranks among the highest quality worldwide. A JRE fine-dining restaurant produces 4,500 kg of glass waste annually, equivalent to 9,400 bottles. Innovative Solutions: Together with Hrastnik1860, member of Vaider Group, JRE created the RE.Water carafe, reducing 100,000 kg of glass waste and generating an added value of €33,000 per JRE restaurant in Slovenia. Potential impact? A 1.7 million kg reduction in glass waste across the EU! The new RE.Vine project is redefining premium wine bottles: Reducing bottle weight by 20% while maintaining a premium design. Using hybrid and hydrogen production (17%) and 20% PCR material. In an innovative step towards sustainability and circularity, Holland & Holland has collaborated with Brandjuicer Limited to upcycle materials from its business processes and create stylish place-setting gifts. These will contain a premium native wildflower meadow mix, designed to encourage guests to foster habitat recovery. 🌍 Sustainable Spotlight Friday #4 Environmental and Social Initiatives at Waregem Koerse 🐎 For our last Sustainable Spotlight Friday, we shine a spotlight on Waregem Koerse, one of the oldest events in Belgium. For its 2023 edition, Waregem Koerse set ambitious sustainable goals and adopted several initiatives to reach them. Let’s dive into two of these projects: • Environmental innovation: Partnering with Van Poucke Rental led to the adoption of 100% vacuum toilets, up from 50% in 2022. This change alone resulted in a significant 90% reduction in water usage for toilet facilities compared to traditional toilets. • Social impact: Under the guidance of Green Panther - Sustainable Events Consultancy and with key contributions from Bram Vandewalle, the event introduced the horse race 4Brain to raise awareness and support for brain disease research. The race gained national attention as it was broadcast live, showcasing how sports events can effectively combine excitement with meaningful social causes. At Circular Unity, we applaud Waregem Koerse for their dedication to both environmental sustainability and social responsibility. When Switch2Zero approached me, my first question was “and what happens after the tree is planted?”. Planting a tree is great, sure, but without context or care, wouldn't it just be an hollow act? What truly made a difference for me was their partnership with Eden: People+Planet and their commitment to landscape restoration. Eden’s approach goes beyond planting trees — it’s about rebuilding ecosystems and communities. Restoration experts at Eden define landscape restoration as "a holistic, standards-based approach to restoration and conservation that generates environmental, socioeconomic, and biodiversity benefits for the well-being of communities and the planet". Translated, this means we’re not just contributing to reforestation; we’re actively supporting local communities who take ownership of the land and ensure these efforts thrive. It’s a partnership that respects both nature and humanity. Making floristry more sustainable is a challenging journey but initiatives like this prove to be one possible way. Since September 2024, we’ve planted nearly 100 trees — and this is only the beginning.
