At AtoZero.Official, Asia’s premier, industry-led, practical platform dedicated to net zero energy transition, our representatives Raymond Lee and Haoxin Xu attended the conference to engage and exchange knowledge with fellow energy professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders on the topics of sustainable energy and net-zero transitions. Key takeaways from the event: 📌 To achieve Net Zero by 2050 as committed by all ASEAN countries, the need for bankable renewable energy projects in the region is apparent. The message is clear that there is no shortage of funding from funds or government in pursuit of achieving Net Zero – working together to present bankable cases is key. 📌 Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage #CCUS is a necessary measure to help achieve net zero but how proven is the technical solution? Learning from countries with first-mover advantage is key to fast track the development. 📌 Major joint efforts have been put forward by governments, private sector stakeholders, agencies to explore the establishment of cross-border CO2 value chain, enabling the future credit market and CO2 transactions. 📌 Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Alternative Fuels (AF) while currently challenged by high costs, could be looking at commercial scale deployment around 2030, driving strong commitment in #decarbonisation of the maritime and aviation industries. This could also encourage value chain development of CO2 utilisation for synthetic fuel. 📌 The ASEAN Regional Grid (ARG) can play a vital role in renewable energy deployment in the region thus benefitting the economic efficiency of participating countries in the long run. Distinctive power pricing system in each country is currently one of the major challenges facing ARG deployment, calling for collaborative and smart pricing mechanism to move forward. Denmark is at the forefront of recognising the pivotal role of CCUS in addressing climate change and has committed substantial funding to create a conducive environment to accelerate the development of CCUS. At Ramboll, we have conducted more than a hundred studies from pre-feasibility through to FEED stage for hard-to-abate and energy sectors. In my decades of experience in the investment world, from Farallon Capital to Galvanize Climate Solutions, one fact is abundantly clear: renewable energy is not slow and inefficient. Quite the opposite, it is cheaper to scale, faster to deploy, and better for our natural world. Clean technology now accounts for 10% of global GDP growth and costs will keep falling at around 20% for every doubling of deployment. As Kingsmill Bond and others from RMI share in a compelling report, the cleantech revolution is here and shaping our world for the better. https://lnkd.in/dy4qfYje.
