🔊 Exciting news alert! This week, the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) unveiled new criteria for the Buildings sector, guiding companies and financial institutions with four key actions to reach emissions reduction targets. The newly-released Building Sector Science-Based Target-Setting Criteria adopts a whole building approach, addressing all energy consumption and embodies emissions - a critical step forward that tackles the sizable opportunity for energy management in buildings. 🏢 We applaud SBTi for introducing criteria and identifying key steps to accelerate the low-carbon future. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has introduced its Buildings Sector Science-Based Target-Setting Criteria. This framework provides organizations with a "whole building approach" to decarbonization, addressing energy consumption and emissions leakage. According to Alberto Carrillo Pineda, SBTi's Chief Technical Officer, both new and old buildings must be decarbonized to effectively combat climate change, and companies and financial institutions are urged to act swiftly. The built environment, responsible for over 25% of global energy-related emissions, can now follow the new guidelines to achieve net-zero targets.
