My wife and I are ripping through The Bear on Hulu. It is a surprisingly stressful show about an industry I know nothing about - the restaurant industry. However, it is great. Full of insightful and emotional through-lines and just enough detail on life in a restaurant to keep you hooked and engaged. The other night we watched Season 2 Episode 9 and one scene jumped out to me as an entrepreneur. Carmy (the lead character - the bear) is in a discussion with his uncle/investor Cicero. Cicero is pointing out to him the risks of taking your eye off the ball as a business owner (using the Cubs playoff game with Steve Bartman to cast a really sharp distinction between fault and blame). In a profanity laced and high energy moment he delivers one of the truest descriptions of being a new entrepreneur. Because of the language (and copyright issues) I won't copy it over, but the gist is as follows: If you want to be the leader, you must be the leader - it is all on you. You need to put your head down, focus, and fully commit to this journey—nothing else. You have to pour every ounce of energy, every drop of sweat, into making this succeed. You can’t afford to take your eyes off the goal, not even for a second. And in return? Be prepared to get kicked in the gut, day after day, for the foreseeable future. Food for Thot We are what we eat... My lock-down home-cooked collection. Today, I am 80% plant-based, only take white meat. On a side note, I have to add too that when you are going through adversity, try to do something to uplift yourself and making yourself feel good. I produced this lock-down home-cooked recipe during the pandemic. Looking back, I was amazed to myself (like a pat on my own shoulder), how I uncovered my hidden 'talent' - - cooking skills.
