When can my child start dance class? In our first dance classes, children learn how to act and behave in class, how to interact with other dancers, and how to follow directions. They practice and learn simple dance techniques, while also having fun and building relationships. Here's the answer to the question we hear a lot from parents. https://bit.ly/dance-age

Dance educators may agree it is difficult for a group of young students to remember their formation placements within choreography. The Dance Dots™ provide a way for instructors to successfully transition their students from one location to another so that the class, rehearsal, or performance may continue. #TheDanceDots #DanceEducation #DanceLife #MovementEducation #EarlyChildhoodDance #KidsDance #DanceTeachers #DanceLove #StudioManagement #DanceGoals

The best part of being a dance teacher isn't just seeing your students progress in technique, it's watching their minds expand as they grow in confidence, creativity, empathy, and so much more! We love this quote about the importance of dance education from Noelani Pantastico in @danceteachermagazine last year: "It's much bigger than dance; We're shaping minds. We're shaping the world." #DanceEducationForALL

Musculoskeletal Therapy Assistant at Philip Cutts Pain Management and Rehabilitation Group / Dance Teacher & Admin Coordinator
Something I have been studying recently is the concept of what makes up dance education. As teachers in the private sector, it can be all to easy to get stuck in the tunnel vision process of teaching syllabus work for exams or preparing for shows. But there are so many components of what should go into providing a well rounded dance education: -the teaching of style-specific technique -exposure to and understanding of existing dance works and shows -understanding musical components in relation to dance -exploring the creative process *understanding and applying anatomical principles to the dancing body Many of these components fall under the realm of artistic education as dance itself is an art form. However, it is also a physical activity that requires physical knowledge. The courses from Philip Cutts Pain Management Rehabilitation have really changed my understanding of what dance requires of the body and also of what it does to the body. Developing in depth anatomical knowledge and then learning how to apply it accurately is no easy task for a dance teacher but it brings an ease and safety of technique to our students that is essential in building a well rounded dancer. #danceteachers #balletteachers #danceeducation #dancemedicine #danceanatomy #CPDtraining

So now greater light is being focused on the Arts, Drama for yet again all the wrong reasons. Outraged..a little late I would suggest when there has been years of insights into the "unsafe practices" at both Dance and Drama Schools. Now SCREAMING "regulation, regulation" when in fact it comes down to ADULT RESPONSIBILITY! The report said the abuse akin to "grooming" is not in all schools, but in the MAJORITY. Just like Ballet West, much has been highlighted, but nothing in the world of Dance or Drama has changed. Too many young and inexperienced tutors and HOD's run rife in these schools and the evidence and results are there for all to see. Smaller Dance Schools and Theatre Schools offer so much more in "pastrol care and development" but are overlooked when it comes to preparing for "pre-professional" development. Change doesn't come from regulation but a greater mindset in duty, care and respinsibility. #safepractices #keepingchildrensafeindance #keepingchildrensafeineducation #philipcutts #philipcuttstraining

The recent closures of more higher education dance courses is concerning. Reflecting on my experience in 2000, I realize how fortunate I was with numerous dance degree course options. The current landscape is vastly different, with significant implications for the sector's skilled workforce. Let's spread this message to influence decision-makers and safeguard our art form. #SaveDanceEducation
“It is imperative that we now take collective action.” One Dance UK, DanceHE, People Dancing and Society for Dance Research have released a joint statement following flurry of dance course closures in Higher Education. There is an urgent need to focus on how the future of dance in education can be protected and rebuilt. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eX5sSbSy

Creative Leadership Business Consulting. Developing creative leaders, so they can achieve sustainable financial, artistic and business success to inspire and generate positive social change.
This joint statement is adequately placed. Yet these institutions themselves often become barriers to embracing the paradigm shifts needed to bring dance in general and HE inline with 21st century needs. As I write in my book, the education system is outdated, though dressed up as flashy-digital-new. Dance practitioners spend their technical preparation time, yet the training institutions and universities teach them almost nothing about building a self-sustained entrepreneurial mindset and career. It seams, for some, numbers and profits are clearly more important than providing what’s really needed. Being part of a capitalistic system, these institutions (HE) have opt to take care of their own bottom line. Are they wrong? I think so. However, it's a fact that most of HE institutions see foreign students as more lucrative than building our next creative leaders. It's all to do with the bottom line. Where are the future leaders? Why has One Dance UK stopped the mentoring programme which provided dance practitioners with the opportunity to learn from established artists over one year? What alternatives are the petition signing institutions providing? Instead of bombastic statements, the institutions must conduct real discussion with grassroots dance practitioners, not the “YES” people gathered around them. I hope for change but it breaks my heart!
