**🛳️ Guess the Part of the Ship! 🚢** It's the heart of the vessel, responsible for moving the entire ship through the water by turning the propeller. Without this, the ship would be dead in the water. What part of the ship am I talking about? Drop your guesses below! 👇 #ShipTrivia #GuessThePart #MarineKnowledge

Working in Shipyards, Naval Bases, Ports and Harbours as a Principal Maritime Civil Engineer for Royal HaskoningDHV and British Standard Panel Chair for BS6349-3
This is an amazing video and brings into perspective what some Maritime Civil Engineers deem to be "adverse berthing, exposed to waves and/or currents" [BS6349-4 5.2.2]. Very impressive skills and seamanship. It would be great to know what the actual approach velocity of the vessel was at the point of impact on the fenders and whether the fenders (or vessel) sustained any damage. #maritime #civilengineering #fenders
This is a technique called "anchor kedging" and it takes extraordinary #skill to do it (particularly in these conditions). Anchor kedging is used to check or control lateral movement using the anchor in unfavourable wind conditions. In this clip, the ships engines and rudder are also being used to keep the stern to windward, while the forward anchor is paid out or dragged to control ships' head in unison. This is MS Nordnorge, a passenger vessel operated by Hurtigruten in #Norway. She's about 120m LOA, 20m beam and about 11,000 GT. She's used for expeditions on the North Coast of Norway. This level of berthing skill is a privilege to witness. #maritime #safety #skill HX Hurtigruten Expeditions Hurtigruten Group International Maritime Pilots' Association (IMPA)

How much time will you spend today as a lighthouse? How much time as a tugboat? Increasing the former and decreasing the latter will reap huge rewards for you and those that are important to you. You get to choose in each moment and you get to choose over and over again. Choose wisely. Day 0 Go

Vacation update: Came across this awe-inspiring maneuver called ‘anchor kedging’ – a testament to extraordinary #skill, especially in challenging conditions. Anchor kedging is employed to control lateral movement using the anchor during unfavorable wind conditions. In this clip, watch MS Nordnorge, a passenger vessel by Hurtigruten in #Norway, demonstrating this technique. The ship’s engines, rudder, and the strategic use of anchors create a mesmerizing ballet on the water. At about 120m LOA, 20m beam, and 11,000 GT, MS Nordnorge is a true marvel. As an ex-navigation officer, witnessing this level of berthing skill is always a privilege. What are your thoughts on these maritime maneuvers? ⚓️🚢 #MaritimeSkill #ShipManeuvers #VacationWonders

A skilled example of kedging. Kedging works best with a long line. Unlike anchoring, it is scope (length of the anchor chain) rather than the weight of the ground tackle (chain + anchor) that provides the holding power.

🚢 Navigating the Waves: The Tugboat Control Panel🚢 At Automation Solutions, we've set sail on a remarkable journey in maritime automation.🎯 Key Features: 1. Efficient Power Distribution: A tugboat's heart lies in its control panel. Ours efficiently routes power throughout the vessel, ensuring seamless operation. From engine propulsion to winch management, every toggle switch plays a crucial role. 2. Marine-Specific Challenges: Unlike land-based systems, marine standards demand resilience against saltwater, vibrations, and tight spaces. Our panel meets these challenges head-on, directing electricity safely even in rough waters. 3. Integration Excellence: Beyond power, our panel harmonizes with the tugboat's alarm and warning systems. Efficient troubleshooting ensures smooth functionality during critical operations. #MaritimeAutomation #TugboatTechnology #ShipControlPanel #MarineEngineering https://lnkd.in/e6FkVm82
