Juneteenth is the oldest nationally/internationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas, a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America long over due. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society. Happy Juneteenth!!

General Order Number 3 One of General Granger’s first orders of business was to read to the people of Texas, General Order Number 3 which began most significantly with: "The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired laborer." 🌟ATTENTION PLEASE READ 🌟 On this Juneteenth, we honor and celebrate the profound significance of freedom and the resilience of our ancestors. It is imperative that we commemorate this day as a reminder of the long journey towards liberation and equality for all. #Juneteenth #Freedom #Resilience As we reflect on this historic day, I am reminded of the remarkable story of my maternal great grandfather, who was one of the most powerful kings to live in history. His legacy of strength and leadership lives on, despite the hardships he endured. He was tragically kidnapped, brought to the USA, and sold three times as a slave. His story is a testament to the atrocities of the past, but also to the indomitable spirit that perseveres in the face of adversity. Today, we honor his memory and the countless others who suffered under the yoke of slavery. #Legacy #Strength #Perseverance Let us use this Juneteenth as a time to reflect on our history, to educate ourselves and others, and to continue the fight for justice and equality. May we never forget the sacrifices made by those who came before us, and may we always strive to create a better future for generations to come. #NeverForget #Justice #Equality #JuneteenthCelebration #highlightseveryone #everyonehighlights #Juneteenth2024 #everyonefollowers

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration marking the end of slavery in the United States and continues to honor the culture, history, and achievements of African Americans. For more than 150 years, African American communities nationwide have commemorated the emancipation of the last enslaved people with celebrations and reflections. This day serves as a profound reminder of America's recognition of the end of slavery and the nation's ongoing commitment to equity, equality, and justice. We encourage everyone to take time on Juneteenth to reflect on both past and ongoing efforts toward these important ideals: https://lnkd.in/eXTYTUyx

Have you ever wondered about Cyrillic and its origins or what it looks like? Below you can read the story, and see the original symbols and the ones we're using today (FYI the transition between the two happened very early in its creation)
Today is a special public holiday for us in Bulgaria, the birth of our alphabet. The two brothers, Cyril and Methodius, created our alphabet in the IX century. They are both regarded as the country’s patrons of education and culture. In 1980, Pope John Paul II declared them co-patron saints of Europe. The Cyrillic alphabet is used today in 12 Slavic countries in Eastern Europe and Northern and Central Asia, as well as in non-Slavic countries, such as Mongolia, which adopted it in the 1940s. Celebrate with us :)
