🌍 Arya Vidyapith Wins “Outstanding Green Initiative” Award at World Education Summit! 🌍 We are proud to announce that Arya Vidyapith has been recognized for its unwavering commitment to sustainability by receiving the “Outstanding Green Initiative” award at the World Education Summit in Chennai. The award was presented by Dr. Palanivel Thiga Rajan, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology & Digital Services, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, and Dr. Ravi Gupta, CEO of ELETS Technomedia. Our visionary Managing Director, Mr. Ranjeet Kumar, received the award on behalf of Arya Vidyapith. ✨ The Journey Towards Sustainability, Led by Mr. Ranjeet Kumar: 🔸 2019: Arya Vidyapith took its first major step towards green energy under the leadership of Mr. Ranjeet Kumar. The school replaced its fossil fuel-based diesel generators with a 10Kw solar power system, addressing the frequent power cuts in the Motihari area. To support this, a heavy battery backup system was installed, ensuring uninterrupted power while significantly reducing our carbon footprint. 🔸 2022: The school expanded its green energy initiative by increasing solar power capacity by an additional 10Kw, further cutting down reliance on conventional energy sources. 🔸 2023: Continuing the journey towards a sustainable future, Arya Vidyapith made a significant leap by transitioning from lead-acid batteries to Lithium Phosphate battery systems, which are more eco-friendly and reduce the air pollution associated with older battery technologies. This step alone drastically reduced the harmful environmental impact of the school’s power infrastructure. 🔸 2024: The school reached another major milestone by adding another 10Kw solar capacity, bringing the total to 30Kw. Today, Arya Vidyapith is almost entirely reliant on solar green energy and has minimal dependence on grid power, which in Bihar often comes from coal-based power plants. This further reduced our carbon footprint, making Arya Vidyapith a “True Green School.” 🔸 Plastic-Free & Green Transportation Vision: Mr. Ranjeet Kumar’s vision doesn’t stop here. By the end of 2024, Arya Vidyapith aims to become a polythene-free campus. In line with his commitment to sustainable transportation, the school began transitioning its fleet by purchasing its first Lithium-based eco-vehicle in 2022 and added a CNG-based bus for student transportation in 2023. The goal is to convert the entire fleet to CNG by 2030, ensuring the school’s transport is eco-friendly and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. This award is a recognition of the ongoing efforts and visionary leadership of Mr. Ranjeet Kumar, who has been driving Arya Vidyapith towards a greener, more sustainable future since 2019. His unwavering commitment to reducing the school’s environmental impact has made Arya Vidyapith not just a pioneer in education, but also a leader in environmental sustainability across the region. Closing the gap in green skills for a sustainable energy future. The world is moving fast towards clean energy, resulting in the unprecedented growing demand for green skills. Roles such as a wind turbine technician, solar installer, or energy analyst are in high demand; however, currently, only one out of eight workers possess skills related to climate (LinkedIn Green Skills Report 2023). Among 18,400 universities screened, 68% of energy degrees focus on fossil fuels, and as these programs are not aligned with new changes, the gap is likely to increase further. In meetings around the world and in our country, People highlight the importance of including green skills in early education. We need to start teaching these skills in schools and continue them through vocational training, especially in India's ITIs, polytechnics, and other skill-building centers. The creation of special Green Skills Hubs and Universities for Renewable Energy and Decarbonization and schools focused on AI and Emerging Technologies will be important for the skills given to the young people who will ensure a good output in clean energy and grow our green economy. Major Strategies for Closing the Green Skills Gap: More Investment: Convert public and private funds presently used in funding fossil fuel education to fund green energy courses undertaken at universities and vocational schools. Establish New Degree Programs: For instance, green energy departments and programs should be spearheaded by the universities, especially in third world countries. Speed the accreditation process: Governments and state education departments can collaborate with institutions of higher learning to accelerate their accreditation in renewable energy degrees. Incorporate sustainability in vocational courses: Environment classes can be integrated into vocational training and endowed with fundamental green skills. Support Global Initiatives: Programs such as the World Economic Forum's Reskilling Revolution help build job-ready workers for the global clean energy industry. It's time that the world converges for enabling the existing workforce with critical skills toward the sustainable, thriving green economy. Focused efforts would meet demand for green skills and can drive a powerful energy transition around the world. #GreenSkills #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #VocationalEducation #ITI #ClimateAction #CleanEnergy #EducationReform #GlobalSkills #WorkforceDevelopment #universities #greenhydrogen

I am proud to say that I have completed my term as the Director of Sustainability for the Associated Students of Santa Monica College for the 2023-2024 academic year! A.S. Sustainability Guidelines - I created a Green Event Plan to ensure waste reduction and an environmental conscience hub for any entity asking for funds from the A.S. These Sustainability Guidelines were adopted by the A.S. on April 1st, 2024. Solar Umbrellas - I researched and advocated for the campus's implementation of Solar Umbrellas. These innovative umbrellas are equipped with solar panels, enabling students to charge their devices while outdoors. This initiative will start as a pilot program that will enhance campus life by providing convenient charging stations and serve as a hands-on demonstration of practical solar energy applications, fostering a greater appreciation and understanding of renewable energy among the student body for years to come. Water Bottle Refill Station - I advocated for the implementation of a water bottle refill station in the SMC library. This initiative promotes environmental sustainability by reducing single-use plastic bottles and enhancing student and faculty welfare by providing easy access to fresh water in one of our busiest buildings. A.S. Year’s Past - I created a document highlighting all proposals from previous A.S. directors dating back to 2011. This archive not only charts the evolution of past priorities and initiatives but also serves as a powerful tool for benchmarking and goal setting. By reflecting on the long-term impacts of these decisions, future directors can draw inspiration and learn from both the successes and challenges faced by their predecessors. Earth Week - I planned and executed five days of events! See here A.S. Journal - For the 2024-2025 school year, I collaborated with the A.S. President and commissioners to develop the A.S. Journal. The journal features a comprehensive guide to SMC resources, a curated selection of student artwork, and dedicated spaces for reflection and note-taking. Hiring Committee - I had the privilege of serving on the hiring committee tasked with selecting the Dean of Equity, Pathways, and Inclusion. I reviewed 145 applications, carefully assessing each candidate's potential to foster an inclusive and equitable environment from a student-centric perspective. Other Notabilities: International Day Event Committee, Cayton Center Remodel Ad Hoc, History Committee As I transition to university, I carry the invaluable experiences and lessons learned from my time at Santa Monica College. I am deeply grateful for the collaboration, support, and trust of everyone involved with the Associated Students. These experiences have not only shaped my understanding of sustainability but have also prepared me for the new challenges and opportunities that await. I am excited to see how Julia Kowalski will carry forward the vision we have nurtured in this position in the upcoming school year!
