📰 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁! Defense and Munitions features our CEO, Sumner Lee, in a cover story on Fuse’s use of military experience to improve real-time communications for active service members! Managing editor Jake Kauffman opens the article with this backdrop, “The average person still gets upset if their cellphone doesn't have a strong signal or if the Internet goes down at their house; however, for the warfighter, losing communications, network connectivity, or computing function is a matter of life and death.” The article, “Connecting the warfighter,” steps through the founding of Fuse, our products that are networking the battlespace, how the digital engineering process is helping us sprint to production, and more. “The way we fight wars is no longer a single platoon or squad going out into the dark of the night and fighting its way to the objective,” Lee says in the article. “Now, the way we fight wars is a squad or platoon on the ground must talk to three different aircraft providing close air support, two bombers, and three ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) platforms looking at where the bad guys are. Your networked capabilities, that ability to communicate with each other in real time has become absolutely critical.” The online article is available now https://lnkd.in/evuBYg6g Later this month, the cover story will be distributed in the June/July print edition. #DefenseAndMunitions #WarfighterCommunications #TacticalEdgeNetworking #DefenseTech #Innovation

"The electromagnetic spectrum has to be reimagined. We have to hide our signals in plain sight. We have to ensure that the commander can see themselves so they can make informed decisions along the way on how they look in the electromagnetic spectrum." -Maj. Gen. Jeth Rey, Director of the Army’s Network Cross Functional Team At Association of the United States Army - AUSA this year, one of the big themes we saw had to do with the electromagnetic spectrum. By and large, this is due to the experiences playing out on the battlefield with the Russia-Ukraine War along with the growing reliance on the electromagnetic spectrum for modern systems to function. In real-time, we're seeing modern technologies fielded, defeated, and adapted in a cycle of defense innovation. So to protect the warfighter, we have to adapt our strategies and tactics to better align with the modern systems we rely on on the battlefield. As our programmers used to say, software is easy and hardware is hard - or was it the other way around. Lockheed Martin CEO James Taiclet said #Ukrainian forces the #Patriot—invented in the 1970s but upgraded many times to shoot down a #Russian #hypersonic #Kinzhal missile. This was done in May, 2023. Software upgrades can sometimes enable an existing system to deal with a more advanced threats. The Defense Department is still holding too many competitions in which companies present white papers with proposals instead of working prototypes. Competitions should be actual product-driven ‘bake-offs,’ and not paper-based evaluations. 🤔 Amen brother! This is what IR&D is supposed to be for. General Atomics built their own UAV system and showed it to CIA and the Air Force before they would consider it. See Richard Whittle https://lnkd.in/gnPi347M Maybe if the military were more forthcoming in acknowledging when it fails, I wouldn't be so doubtful about Patriot, but security and classification of data makes it difficult to tell, and is so easy to hide behind. We can only hope IG's and Congress gets accurate data.
