ICMYI: I had the amazing opportunity to interview Renee Bebee, the executive director of Crossfire Ministries, for my podcast "Beyond the Dais." Crossfire Ministries has been serving the El Paso County, Colorado area for 32 years, providing essential services to families in need. Here are some of the key takeaways from the insightful conversation: 1. **Community Impact**: Crossfire Ministries provides no-cost groceries, clothing, personal hygiene items, and utility assistance to families in need, serving approximately 450 families a day, with no zip code restrictions. 2. **Partnerships and Collaboration**: Through key partnerships with organizations such as Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado, Mercy's Gate, The Salvation Army, Catholic Charities of Central Colorado, and others, Crossfire Ministries maximizes its impact and ensures that families are connected with the resources they need, including support for rent and utilities. 3. **Volunteer Opportunities**: The organization relies on volunteers to support its operations, with a constant need for 50 to 60 volunteers daily. Whether it's volunteering, holding food drives, or making financial contributions, there are numerous ways for the community to get involved. Some of you may know, and many likely don't, that my parents-in-law fund and manage an orphanage in Mozambique; one of the poorest countries in the world. Their non-profit organization, Least of These Ministries, utilizes 100% of donations to fund the orphanage named after my mother-in-law: Rebecca's Home. These donations pay for school for the kids (it isn't free in Mozambique), new clothes, shoes and beds, medical care, job training, staff salaries, building structures like dorms and wells, maintenance and repairs, food, holiday celebrations and anything else the kids need. Currently, there are about 50 children living at Rebecca's Home. Since its start in 2007, hundreds of Mozambique's "least of these" have been helped at Rebecca's Home. Recently, I was asked to make a video using some current pictures sent by Pastor Cebola (he's the man who runs the orphanage locally). Please take a look and see all the good that is being done there. And if you want to get involved financially, or otherwise, please let me know and I'll give you details on how to make a difference in these kids' lives. I believe it is time to review my paper with Patrick Bixler, Dr. Vedlitz at Texas A&M University - The Bush School of Government and Public Service, William Brown, published in early 2024. This paper presents examples of emergency situations in Texas, similar to the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl that we are currently experiencing. Houstonians are facing significant outages, and marginalized populations are more severely impacted by the resulting damages and extreme weather. In this context, the role of nonprofits in enhancing community resilience is becoming increasingly important. This paper offers insights that may inform the development of community resilience policies. https://lnkd.in/guATXvxR

Despite historic public and private investments in the growing field of evidence-based methods, relatively few cities have reduced community violence at the city level and sustained those reductions across leadership transitions. With support from The Pew Charitable Trusts and in partnership with field experts, California Partnership for Safe Communities (CPSC) began working in 2022 to identify the “key capacities” associated with the ability of cities to achieve and sustain reductions in community violence. The findings have significant implications for public policy and how we take on violence in cities. We explored why some cities struggle while others thrive in reducing community violence. Engaging with experts and practitioners across national, state, and local levels, we unearthed six key capacities outlined in our latest Whitepaper. Beyond theoretical models, these principles are pivotal in enabling cities to reduce violence. Read more in the link below! Once you see these capacities, you won't be able to unsee them in your projects. #CommunitySafety #CVI #ViolenceReduction #SafeCities #UrbanSafetyInnovation #Whitepaper
