A Milestone Moment for YES Workforce at Erie County #ReEntry Task Force Monthly Meeting 🌟 Today marked a significant milestone for YES Workforce, and I am thrilled to share it with my LinkedIn network! In a room filled with 34 attentive faces at the Erie County Re-Entry Task Force's Bi-Monthly Meeting, I had the distinct honor of representing the YES Workforce initiative for the very first time since we embarked on this journey in April 2023 and we continue to move forward. 🤗 Clarity on YES Workforce's Reach: 🤗 A question we've received recently is if YES Workforce operates exclusively in Erie County. The answer is quite expansive: our nonprofit status extends across New York State, not just within Erie County. This broad reach opens up numerous possibilities for our social impact efforts. We are driven by a mission that knows no geographical bounds within the state. Our vision is to leverage our God-given gift to positively impact lives wherever we go, transcending local boundaries to embrace a state-wide community. The audience comprised of dedicated organizations and individuals passionate about reintegrating returning citizens into society, helping them become productive, and supporting them in rebuilding their lives. Presenting at this platform was not only a privilege but a delightful experience that underscores the essence of what we aim to achieve at YES Workforce. As we continue to forge paths and break barriers, I'm keen to know: ⁉ How do you think communities can further support the reintegration of returning citizens? Let's discuss and share ideas on making a tangible difference. Together, we can create a more inclusive, supportive, and productive society as we transform #workforce development in New York State. Shout-out to Tanya Drake, Erie County Reentry Coordinator, Spectrum Health and Human Services. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with one of your clients and share my knowledge and experience last week. And, another shot-out to "...Governor Kathy Hochul who signed legislation (A3076-A/S447-C) into law, strengthening New York’s health care workforce ..." #ReturningCitizens #CommunitySupport #YESWorkforce #SocialImpact #RebuildingLives #Inclusion 📣

What are you grateful for? I'm certainly grateful for my family- and happy to share this picture of my husband Todd, daughters Katie & Lindsey and my father (his friends call him Doug). Over the years, I've been blessed with support from my family, friends and currently, my employer- who specializes in family care benefits! The most effective family care programs solve three complex and common barriers to care: accessibility, affordability, and quality. Organizations that are able to successfully address this "trilemma of care" help their working caregivers go from merely surviving to thriving at work and home. In turn, these caregivers are able to more fully commit to their day-to-day work, increasing engagement and productivity while driving better business outcomes. A successful family care program is more than an employee benefit; it’s a strategic advantage. Access to Work: Who Holds Them Accountable? Yesterday, I wrote about Access to Work, and today, I find myself reflecting on just how difficult it has been, not just for me, but for so many others, to navigate their processes. Over the years, I’ve had to make official complaints, involve my MSP, and seek alternative sources of support just to access the help that’s supposed to be available. There have been moments of relative smoothness, but those are overshadowed by stories of dismissiveness, gaslighting, and outright invalidation, particularly over the past year, following changes to the programme that many of us weren’t even informed about. Access to Work is becoming increasingly inaccessible. And the worst part? There is no real way to hold them to account. Complaints are met with endless bureaucratic barriers, designed to wear people down until they give up. The system is not built for those who need it, it’s built to protect itself. That’s why I’ve taken the step of making Freedom of Information requests, with more on the way. A complaint is also in motion, not because I expect an easy resolution, but because pushing back is necessary. When a department responsible for supporting disabled workers instead creates more obstacles, often with devastating real-world consequences, we have to speak up. If you’ve faced similar challenges with Access to Work, or other disability-related support services, I’d love to hear from you. How can we push for real accountability? What has helped you navigate these barriers? Let’s make this conversation louder. Change won’t happen if we stay silent. #AccessToWork #Accountability #DisabilityRights #WorkplaceWellbeing #FreedomOfInformation
