Every time a woman shares her story with me, I am left inspired. Today's story was from Lerato Rikhotso. She's kind of a big deal at MultiChoice Group. Dare I say, our very own Oprah. Her secret to success? Consistency. Some of my takeaways include: 1. Consistent, incremental actions compound over time, creating a significant impact. 2. Consistency builds trust. When our actions align with our words consistently, it fosters credibility and reliability. 3. Challenges are inevitable, but showing up, putting in the work and being resilient is what helps us overcome them. Each step, no matter how small, contributes to the greater narrative of success. Grateful for the insights shared today! 🙏🏽 Knowing that you need to be consistent is the easy part. Practicing consistency is a lot harder. Here's some tips. Which one resonates with you? #Consistency #Masterclass #PersonalBranding

#IGNITEBlackBusinessSummit is almost here and to celebrate, here are more speakers to look forward to meeting. Anisha Murphy, Esq. is the Founder and Manager of Just Law. Just Law’s mission is to provide innovative, creative, and accessible legal resources to promote business growth for creatives, entrepreneurs, and business owners. The vision is to equip businesses with the legal tools and knowledge to thrive.⠀⠀⠀ Anisha's ultimate desire is to have impact and close disparity gaps, eliminate the racial wealth divide, and ultimately disrupt systematic and institutional barriers that result in unequal access to opportunity for Black and Brown communities. In early 2021 when Reggie Carter, Founder and Owner of Must be Ruff (https://lnkd.in/gWSqnCrP) created the company, his family had recently welcomed Kirby, a black and tan European Doberman. They wanted Kirby to be healthy and to live her best life and one way to do that was to hand-make all of her food and treats. Growing up on a farm in Mississippi, Reggie knew that he wanted Kirby to be as healthy as the dogs and animals he was surrounded by as a kid. Thanks to the community, the treats can be found in stores, breweries, and farmers markets in the Twin Cities metro area. Tasha (Kirk) Harris, M.A. is the President and Co-Founder of KobiCo, a Black-owned luxury candle company that pairs each original fragrance with a curated playlist that turns a simple self-care moment into a whole entire vibe. Kobi Co. is a mother-daughter team that started out as a self-care practice for 17-year-old Kobi. They’ve grown from self-care “hobby” to a six-figure company whose candles, bath bombs, and sprays can be found in Minneapolis’ coolest retail spots and their store in downtown Minneapolis. Adair Mosley joined African American Leadership Forum in October 2022, after his tenure as the President and CEO of Pillsbury United Communities. Adair is recognized as a passionate change-maker and relentless strategic innovator. At Pillsbury United, he moved the focus upstream. This led to over $3M in incremental funding to launch a community health partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, a policy department with the Kresge Foundation, and increased resources on narrative justice. He also led a $7M capital campaign to build North Market in North Minneapolis. In 2020, he launched Justice Built Communities, an equitable economic development corporation to prevent gentrification while prioritizing wealth creation in Black and Brown communities, securing $5M for its launch. He secured $1M in scholarship funds for the graduating class of 2022 at North High School in Minneapolis. He was selected to represent the Twin Cities region at Harvard Business School’s Young American Leaders Program in 2019 and named by Twin Cities Business Magazine as 100 People to Know in 2022. I just finished reading "The Operator" - David Geffen is the ultimate strategist. He's been the go-to for industry leaders like Steve Jobs, The Clintons, Calvin Klein and built businesses reaching the peak in recorded music, broadway and film. Every year in his life reads like a 10 year career. Here are my takeaways: • Hardwork always translates. Geffen would average 80-100 calls per day, his start in the William Morris mailroom was built on time. • Identifying Talent. This is not just artists, it's executives. This was one of his competitive advantages throughout his career. • Social Impact. Geffen's philanthropy was world-class. He was the ultimate fundraiser. His contribution to AIDS research and the Democrat party will have a lasting impact on society. • Use other people's money. Both Asylum and Geffen Records were JVs. • Jackson Browne is not only a prolific artist, but may have also doubled as the most important A&R of his generation. • Be comfortable in your own skin. There's a lot to unpack here when you take into context time and society. How Geffen navigated interpersonal relationships was the unfortunate tax he paid on his legacy. • Where did all the characters go? I picked this up as a recommendation from The Manager's Playbook by Mauricio Ruiz. It's a doorstop, but if you enjoy the history of the entertainment industry with a Boston harbour sized cup of tea - "The Operator" is for you. #MusicIndustry #UniversalMusic #Entertainment #Warner #Sony

It’s been a BUSY summer y’all! In the past few weeks I’ve learned a ton. I’ve worked hard and put my all into something pretty special. Now, it’s time to talk about it: there’s a new small business in Boise and yours truly is at the helm! HKC Public Affairs is an advocacy strategy shop. Cool! What’s that mean? Advocacy encompasses a wide range of activities -- public engagement, citizen training, capacity building, forming networks and more. We can utilize all these things to create change and build a stronger force for progress. The goal is communities connected to those in power. Small orgs, businesses, informal groups…we’re all affected by policy decisions, but don’t necessarily have a voice in the process. Let’s change that. Setting up shop has been insanely fun, exciting, and challenging. The great website saga of ‘23 (wouldn’t have made it without Cady and Brandon!), general advice about clients (my hometown experts Beth and Whitney), all the love, encouragement and support from friends and contacts…all of you made this possible. Special thanks to Curtis for being the most supportive man on the planet, and for keeping my favorite candy stocked. The organizations and businesses I’ve worked for and in partnership with – the amazing people that do this work – all helped shape the journey. CVI taught me more than I can ever imagine (they’re hiring – check it out!) and my LB network has been invaluable. All of you contributed to making this back-burner dream a reality. “This is so needed” is the reaction I’ve gotten most when talking about this business. I agree. Let’s team up and make progress. https://lnkd.in/gRaQ6syh

For those who may not know, I have owned and operated my own cookie company for the past 10 years. This past spring, I had the opportunity to sit down and share my story with a writer from Texas McCombs School of Business Magazine. It was an amazing opportunity, and I am grateful to all who made this happen.
