I tend to disagree with the way it's put on the first page of the document from hashtag #europeanspaceforum, as it can be read as "Europe's freedom of action and autonomous decision-making are at risk because the providers of the data are private industrial companies". And I really hope that this is not exactly what ASD-Eurospace wanted to say. Because I think the problem is not that the government depends on private providers of solutions, nor in the "private" character of industry per se, but rather that the existing support measures for private companies in Europe are insufficient to ensure EU freedom and autonomy in space. This is why a consistent industrial policy is so important and indispensable for the EU space sector in a first place! Olivier Lemaitre Charles Galland
🗣️ On Monday and Tuesday, ASD-Eurospace Secretary General Olivier Lemaitre & Policy Manager Charles Galland attended the Forum Europe's European Space Forum 2024 in Brussels. Please find below the key takeaways from their interventions 👇 Many thanks to Forum Europe (Dan Craft, Karolina Stankiewicz, Tom Chinnock) for the opportunity to speak and the great organisation 👏

🌍 Today, on World Heritage Day, we are proud to highlight our project—a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to safeguarding and protecting Europe's rich coastal and underwater cultural heritage. As climate change accelerates and natural hazards become increasingly frequent, our historical sites, especially those located along coastlines or submerged under water, face unprecedented threats. These sites are not only treasures of archaeological and historical significance but are also crucial for the cultural identity and heritage of communities across Europe. 🛡️ The Thetida project is at the forefront of addressing these challenges. By employing advanced technologies and innovative methodologies, Thetida aims to monitor, analyze, and ultimately protect these vulnerable sites from the damaging effects of environmental changes and human impact. Today, let's renew our commitment to preserving our shared heritage. By protecting these sites, we are not only honoring our past but also ensuring that future generations can enjoy and learn from these wonders. Let's stand together to protect our heritage against the tide of climate change. Happy World Heritage Day! Ps. The photo has been taken on the Natural History Museum in Vienna, where EGU takes place these days! #WorldHeritageDay #ThetidaProject #CulturalHeritage #ClimateAction #HorizonEurope

Pink is going blue! Are you familiar with carbon sinks and blue nature-based projects? Want to learn more? Hear real insights and practical examples from our panelists at the 11th annual World Ocean Summit powered by The Economist on March 12 at 14:30 WET in Lisbon Congress Center, Lisbon, Portugal. In the fight against climate change, blue nature-based projects play a critical role for marine ecosystems and as carbon sinks. Developing nature-based projects is a multi-stakeholder process including the local community, finance, policy, scientists and educators. Skill-building and meticulous project planning are currently lacking to ensure scale and long-term impact from blue projects. Collaboration is essential to achieving successful outcomes for the ocean. The ocean passionate Sandra Silva Silva, General Manager at Mary Kay Global in Portugal will share her views on the crucial need for collaborative efforts in marine conservation and for incorporating gender perspectives in blue-nbs. Moderator: Diana Denke, Co-Founder & CEO, Fair Carbon Speakers: Sandra Silva, Sian Rees, Associate Professor, social-ecological systems research, Plymouth Study Online University, Chip Cunliffe, Programme and Risk Director, @ORRAA https://lnkd.in/gJ8Pcpdy #blueeconomy #womenempowerment #womenleadership

The oceans are not very well understood and yet they are crucial to our future and next generations. I am very passionate about the Ocean Decade and very proud that Fugro is a partner of Ocean Decade. I really hope that more corporates will join this incredible important effort as we can only solve the climate change challenges through concerted efforts. What is Ocean Decade? Proclaimed in 2017 by the United Nations General Assembly, the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) (‘the Ocean Decade’) seeks to stimulate ocean science and knowledge generation to reverse the decline of the state of the ocean system and catalyse new opportunities for sustainable development of this massive marine ecosystem. The vision of the Ocean Decade is ‘the science we need for the ocean we want’. The Ocean Decade Corporate Data Group—co-chaired by Fugro and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (IOC/UNESCO)—was officially launched in February 2023. The working group is focused on creating frameworks and mechanisms to make privately owned ocean science data publicly available for the benefit of humanity, #Fugro #oceandecade #unesco #climatechange

The challenge in supporting enhanced and sustainable uses of the #marine domain is to enable current and future growth in the blue economy and the associated development of coastal livelihoods, while equally supporting sustainable social, economic and environmental outcomes. This was the message underpinning MSEAS, the recent Marine Socio-Ecological Systems Symposium in Yokahama, Japan. #MarineSABRES was represented at the conference by Zacharoula Kyriazi, Ph.D., a Research Fellow at MaREI, UCC. Day 47 – lost cause ‘Where the devil is Annapurna’? When, in 1950, members of the French Alpine Club resolved to attempt the first ever summit of over 8000 meters, a surprising challenge awaited them. They couldn’t find it. Their sketchy maps were wrong, aerial photographs inconclusive, cloud cover obstructive. Despite the indisputable fact that, as expedition leader Maurice Herzog put it ‘a summit of 26,000 feet doesn’t pass unnoticed’, the local people seemed to know nothing about it. ‘Where on earth was Annapurna?’ From April 14th to May 22nd, a sizable chunk of the precious window of time before the start of the monsoon, the expedition team were forced to reconnaissance in person, the northern side of Dhaulagiri, the Eastern Glacier, the White peak, the Miristi Khola. ‘“But where is Annapurna? It’s still a mystery.”’ The very goal of their trip was an enigma, seemingly inaccessible: Sometimes, the beginning of our highest calling looks like being lost. Reflect: * What is your summit? It might be the goal of a lifetime, or just a goal that is meaningful right now. It might be very concrete (get promoted) or more transcendent ‘be true to myself’? Experiment: * Today, take stock of the maps handed to you by others, what you know and what you might need to explore for yourself to locate your summit or discover your line of ascent. Tips - The maps and pictures given to us by others are rarely good enough to get to the summits of the mountains of our own lives. We need to explore for ourselves. - Exploring is emotionally and physically arduous; assure your supply lines - As you explore, create your own map; on paper, in a journal, online or with a friend. #microballroom #toromiroliving #leadership #personaldevelopment #community #flourishing
