INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Volunteer Field Research Assistants in Sea Turtle Nesting Project (2025 Season)! From March until October each year, this project conducts nightly beach patrols (rain or shine) to encounter nesting females (primarily leatherbacks and hawksbill). The goal is to monitor the nesting populations and to protect the females and their eggs from illegal harvest and beach erosion. The work is a mix of conservation measures and scientific data collection, marking individuals to estimate population size, collect different types of data on the morphology and growth rate of individuals, record the reproductive output of females, and calculate the hatching success of nests and the number of hatchlings produced. Further samples are collected to conduct diet studies using stable isotope analysis, and a few satellite transmitters are attached to turtles each year to study the habitat use of our turtles. ✨️ Did you know that every year nearly 28 million birds are monitored globally via ringing? 🌍 Bird ringing is a scientific method of attaching a small, uniquely numbered ring to a bird's leg to track its movements and gather data on its lifespan, migration, and behavior patterns. I’m excited to share that I’ve completed an incredible two-month internship with the renowned Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) focusing on bird ringing data—and to top it all off, our work was featured in the BNHS newsletter! 🎉 Bird ringing provides vital insights into: - Migration routes - Survival rates - Impacts of climate change and habitat loss In the global context, such studies contribute significantly to conservation strategies and biodiversity monitoring, initiatives like this foster actionable conservation strategies. Meet Guillermo González Fradejas and Tom Winter 👇 Tom Winter studied for a degree in "International Land and Water Management" at Wageningen University in the Netherlands where he learned the technical and social aspects of getting water to the right place at the right time. His Master's program is entitled "Geo-Information Science & Remote Sensing" and covers the analysis of satellite imagery and geographic data. 📢 “My work at Murmuration will focus on model development and satellite data analysis. I work mainly in the field of land cover classification. “ Guillermo González Fradejas graduated in Environmental Sciences from the University of Alcalá, Spain, and is currently studying for the same Master's degree as Tom 📢 “During my six-month internship at Murmuration, I will focus on analyzing the impact of tourism on water resources, with particular emphasis on its contribution to a region's water stress, as part of the CAPENVI project." #new #team #teammembers #data
