Now, to be clear, I actually don't mind the personalization of ERGs to fit the company. I love seeing things like Klaviyo's KRGs (Klaviyo Resource Groups) or Riot Games' RIGs (Rioter Inclusion Groups). The name or branding of the ERGs and ERG Program name is really a form of program customization - like giving a car a new paint job. The problem comes in for many companies who've put on this elaborate paint job of BRGs thinking that that's the real work vs the engine work that needs to be done (giving the ERG program governance, equipping the ERG Leaders with best community building practices). Also the misdirection of many companies with the title BRG to focus on driving business impact in all of the wrong ways is another major beef I have with the term.
