What an incredibly humbling way to start the New Year 💥 Thank you so much to the Fortune Team, and especially Jasmine Li, Payton Kirol, Rachel Ventresca, and the rest of the team for taking the time to reach out, chat with us, and tell me and Kevin Wong's story! And yes, it is true, MATH is what kickstarted me and Kevin's friendship and therefore Lunar. So I am gladly eating my words on calculus being not useful to my life! 🤣 #cpg #lny #lunarnewyear #aapi #rtd #hardseltzer #entrepreneurship
Lunar Hard Seltzer began in 2019 as a home-brewing project in a 400-square-foot studio apartment in New York’s East Village neighborhood. It's now a multimillion-dollar brand selling out at Trader Joe's. bit.ly/3UAKLAx Lunar's cofounders, Sean Ro and Kevin Wong, met on the first day of Calculus III at the University of Virginia in 2009. They would soon become best friends and go on to make six figures in the tech industry—but they both had the entrepreneurial itch. In 2021, the pair quit their jobs to launch Lunar, a local craft hard seltzer made with real fruit from Asia, designed to be “sweet, but not too sweet.” Within three years, Lunar has generated lifetime revenue of over $1 million—but it took a stint at JPMorgan Chase & Co., a close call with mercury poisoning, and a mother’s approval to get there.
