Teamwork 👍🏻 Lessons from the Theatre | Part 3️⃣ 🎭 The rehearsal and preparation time frame for a theatre production is typically 4-6 weeks before a paying audience arrives to see the magic 💰 That means everyone involved in theatre both onstage and back stage needs to get through the typical team formation process ‘forming, storming, normimg and performing’ stage pretty quickly 💨 So how do they do it? What can we learn from the theatre? 🧐 💎 Purpose - as discussed in Part 2️⃣ this is lazer sharp and clear to ALL involved - it makes sense cognitively and emotionally 💎 Egos left at door - theatre can attract some major seasoned celebrities as well as people who are undertaking their first acting role or their first theatre job. Everyone functions as an ensemble recognising they are all equally important to the production’s success 💎 Discipline - a strange word to use in a business context, but without discipline theatre productions would fall apart - but more on that in Part 4️⃣ coming soon 😎 Keep shining ⭐️⭐️⭐️

In every business meeting or call, I often find myself grappling to justify the economical costs we offer for Be.artsy's professional street theatre services. Convincing clients of the immense value we provide is a challenge, especially when I attempt to help them visualize the intricacies involved in crafting a single script and bringing it to life in a compelling live show. Street theatre isn't just about acting out a scene; it's an immersive, impactful way to deliver messages that resonate deeply with audiences. From conceptualization and scriptwriting to rehearsals and live performances, every step is meticulously planned and executed. This process involves a significant investment of time, creativity, and expertise from our dedicated team. And this post, sums it so well in the very first statement - “To develop a street theatre script and turn it into a live performance is a bigger miracle than making a great movie.”
To develop a street theatre script and turn it into a live performance is a bigger miracle than making a great movie. Unlike film or videos, we have no retakes—every minor mistake impacts the message we aim to convey. Be.artsy works on each detail to ensure the play delivery is powerful and impactful for the audience. At Be.artsy, our team of actors practise tirelessly for 8-10 days for 4-6 hours to set the rhythm of the jingles and learn the dialogues of each script before the final show. This relentless dedication and preparation allow us to create unforgettable street theatre experiences. Hence street theatre leaves a lasting impact. After delivering 5000+ Street theatres we can assure you that it's one of the most powerful tools to enhance your Learning & Development programs. Contact us to learn more! Theatre Work: Reimagining the Labor of Theatrical Production, by Brídín Clements Cotton and Natalie Robin (with a foreword by Carmen Morgan, artEquity Founder and Executive Director), opens a door into both the history and current realities of life and work in professional theatrical production in the United States. It specifically questions the lack of diverse representation in the theatrical production field today and how the field has promoted systemic exclusion. Rather than proposing a checklist of steps to a more equitable workplace, Theatre Work invites readers to question everything—our shared history, our ways of operating, our assumptions about how theatre has to function, our own part in these systems—and to consider what might happen if theatre in the United States was reborn in an entirely new form. There is another way. The book cover showcases the title and a black-and-white line drawing of a stage in need of repair with a hole in the back brick wall through which you can see a colorful and beautiful sunrise coming up over green hills.

What might the futures of Prairie-Based Theatre look like in 2040? Will we experience immersive, digital productions from the comfort of our homes? Or will theatres evolve into vital community hubs where we gather to grieve, heal, and connect amidst immerse societal challenges? I'm thrilled to contribute to the latest issue of Canadian Theatre Review Volume 201: Future, Uncertainty, and the Theatre Sector. The article Finding Hope Within Disruption: Exploring Prairie-Based Theatre in 2040 reflects on findings from the Future Prairie Theatre project, where strategic foresight methodologies were used to explore a range of plausible futures and identify the changes shaping the sector today. The article highlights key disruptions and trends—from climate collapse and digitization to decolonizing theatre and political polarization—and how they could shape the theatre of tomorrow. Through scenarios and workshops, theatre artists from across the Prairies articulated not only their worries but also their hopes for what the future could hold. Participation Theatre If you aren’t co-creating, you might be taking part in participation theatre. If more is going on backstage than in front of the curtain – the scope, budget, and key decisions of a project are a done deal – it’s participation theatre. One is a polished performance, and the other is messy in the middle. It might be time to put down the camera, pull back the curtain, and ignore the viewing figures. https://lnkd.in/dcsGiN8E

In directing, you need to understand what you can afford and what you can’t. This is not only about financial capabilities, but also the potential of the actors involved in your theatrical production. I think the problem in this matter is when actors are imposed on you and there is no way to replace them. As a director, I have a complete vision of what I want to get in the end when I stage a performance. And here, every element is important. An actor is a professional who must not only complete the assigned task in a short time, but also bring his own to the character he plays. Simply learning the text and repeating the mise-en-scènes is not acting. This is performance. Fulfilling the director’s will. This will not improve the overall idea in any way. Here you need to make sure that the actor’s actions make a difference in the entire production. If this is not the case, this ship will not sail far. I have to work with such people from time to time. And in such cases, I am more angry with myself because of my powerlessness. Because I can't get them to understand what they need to do. Well, I can, but their capabilities are so limited that they can't jump above their heads.
