For people with disabilities, following specialized diets, like gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free, is challenging and expensive. The Food Security team has partnered with the Disability Inclusion Network to get more allergy-friendly food items in the Children's food pantry. Consider donating this #DisabilityPrideMonth! https://lnkd.in/gnfP8Yn4

The holidays are almost here. This means guests will be arriving soon and some may stay overnight. Here are 3 areas you can prepare before they arrive. Guest Bed: Add a fresh set of sheets to your guest bed. Place additional pillows and blankets in the room for extra comfort. A bottle of water is a nice touch. Towels: Have extra towels handy along with key hygiene items that guests may have forgotten. You can place a nightlight in the bathroom to assist those who are not familiar with your home. Food: Stock up the pantry and fridge with a variety of snacks and beverages. Make sure you verify if they have any allergies before you purchase. If you need assistance getting organized, unpacking, or preparing for a move, book your FREE consultation today. #holiday #guests #declutter #purge #donate #organizingpro #homeorganizer #houstonhomeorganizer #professionalorganizerhouston #hireaprofessionalorganizer #blackprofessionalorganizers #womenowned #NABPO #NAPO #NAPOHouston #Texas #harriscounty #montgomerycounty #galvestoncounty #iOrganize #YouMatter2Us #fyp #foryou https://lnkd.in/gJ2Bhic8

We are so grateful for the continued support of Hunger Task Force in supplying over a third of the fresh food offered in our Milwaukee food pantry. Using the money we save because of their generous donations, we're able to supply our patients with a greater variety of nutritious foods. Their continued commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our patients is not only admirable, but essential to the success of our mission. Thank you to WISN-TV for this wonderful feature! https://ow.ly/m0QQ50QHevT

#FoodAllergies affect 33 million Americans, which is nuts! Imagine the impact if every person with food allergies donated just $5 to research. We could raise a staggering $165 million to fund more crucial scientific research for better treatments and a cure. Join us in our #thisisnuts challenge to help reverse these stats and turn allergies upside down! To join the challenge, post a picture of yourself, your kids, pets, or a group doing a headstand, handstand, or anything upside down. Tag @foodallergyfund and use the #thisisnuts hashtag. Spread the word, and please consider donating at https://lnkd.in/eH4E6eks. #health #challenge #July4th #research

Did you know that the month of September is Hunger Action Month and September 14th specifically is "Food as Medicine Day"? That's why I want to share something personal with you today. My nephew Charlie is an amazing, intelligent, sweet and creative boy. I enjoy spending time with him and he's such a good friend to Colin. Charlie was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Through his family, I've learned much more about Celiac and watching their journey has made me profoundly grateful for the resources his family has to ensure he gets the right nutrition. His diet isn’t just about food; it’s about his well-being and future. Unfortunately, not every family is as fortunate. Many individuals are struggling with similar dietary restrictions due to food allergies, celiac disease, hypertension, heart disease, and high blood pressure, but they lack the means to access the foods that are essential for their health. This is where Food Equality Initiative, Inc. (FEI) steps in. FEI is a beacon of hope for those who face these challenges without adequate support. They are dedicated to making sure that folks living in the Kansas City area, regardless of their financial situation, can use food as medicine. They provide access to safe, nutritious foods for people who are often overlooked, ensuring that dietary needs are met and health is not compromised. Additionally, they partner with other organizations and researchers to improve our knowledge of the connections between food and health. Imagine a single mother who wants nothing more than to keep her child safe and healthy, but struggles to afford the special foods required for a severe food allergy. Or think of an elderly couple, managing heart disease, who can’t afford the fresh produce and low-sodium options they desperately need. FEI is there to bridge that gap, to ensure that no one has to choose between their health and their budget. Your support can transform lives. By donating to the Food Equality Initiative, you help provide the vital resources and support that individuals and families need to manage their health through proper nutrition. You become part of a community dedicated to ensuring that no one is left behind in their struggle for a healthier life. Please consider making a donation today using this link: https://lnkd.in/gNSxewXx Your generosity can bring hope and relief to those who need it most, and it will make a tangible difference in their lives. Together, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their financial situation. And to add a bit of levity - I'm competing with my fellow board members. I'd love to brag about my network through your support. Thank you for your compassion and for standing with those in need.

Some really important food messaging in here for consumers, and especially for those with food hypersensitivity. Please spread the word. #foodstandards, #foodsafety, #publicprotection
This week, we've launched our vegan products and allergens campaign. The campaign is in response to our research, which has shown 62% of people who react to animal-based products, or who buy for someone who is, are confident that products labelled ‘Vegan’ are safe to eat, which is incorrect and may be putting them at risk. Our marketing team have worked incredibly hard on this, supported by the top 3 UK allergen charities and The Vegan Society, and it's been fantastic to support with media for this really important campaign.

Expert in Public Health and the corporate governance of Food Safety Management for the foodservice industry, Podcast Host of Food Safety Unwrapped, Keynote Speaker, Book Author, Innovator, managing partner, and friend
Friends and colleagues, We all have likely had a foodborne illness where we didn't seek medical care and thankfully the illness resolved. Many of us, as food safety professionals, can likely point to where we got the contaminated food from as well (and tell you how). Many consumers (and many we know) don't just get an illness that resolved but they get a foodborne disease (where they seek medical treatment) and have lifelong debilitation or they die from the disease. We all have heard the stats, that the CDC estimates that 48 million people get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die from foodborne diseases each year in the United States. However, if you want to know an actual number of cases of disease from foodborne disease outbreaks (the most current number of reported cases in the United States is from 2022 which is only a snapshot of multistate outbreaks that are reported), there were 2,094 outbreaks, 45,500 illnesses, 868 hospitalizations, and 61 deaths in 2022. You can track these back to 1993 here: https://lnkd.in/egMFJDT9 The only way to prevent most foodborne diseases is either by avoidance (like I do for foods with peanuts) or stopping the physical, chemical, or biological adulteration of the food. This is why all of us in the government, academia, industry, trade groups, publishers, food safefy product and service suppliers, and non profits work together in this profession to stop foodborne diseases, and why we all support the mission of Stop Foodborne Illness. Show you support as a food safety professional by donating. https://lnkd.in/eWPduaZq
